A Thoroughly Modern Wedding

If I ever get married (and that's a big if), I definitely want something non-traditional. I had visions of my perfect wedding growing up (what little girl didn't?), but my visions have changed from the typical fairy tale wedding to something simpler and more modern. So... thank you for this! I especially love the flower arch cake topper, it's so sweet!! :)

I love it all ! The Modern wedding has been going on for many a year all over Europe. When I studied in Holland a long time ago, my boss told me brides had long left behind the veil and would be considered out of style if they were caught walking down the Isle with one on. Of course in our part of Holland the groom took care of the brides bouquet ! The fella would to come in to the shop with his designer suit or tie and together we (the florist) would pick out the flowers for her bouquet. The order would be placed, we would create the bouquet and he would come and pick the bouquet up on the day of the wedding to present it to his bride. Now that is modern tradition ! Thanks for the post!

Well, I'm thoroughly bored of the wedding industry after seeing it plugged so often on Etsy's front page. Having got to an age when many og my friends are on their second or even third marriages, I can't help but consider how much money they've wasted on their "once in a lifetime" parties. Cynical? Yes. But I've just heard of yet another divorce amongst my circle of friends, meaning that my unmarried relationship has far outlasted those of all the folks we knew way back when.

I've got to tell you one thing that I've learned about weddings. When it's your son or daughter up at the alter saying the vows, it's extremely emotional for the mom!!!!! Bring a ton of kleenex and have waterproof mascara on!

Thanks for the post, neat finds! Weddings are such an awesome event to me, and I never tire of all of the sweet new wedding things there is to see. I would love to rewind and plan my wedding all over again. There are so many more options now than there was then. But of coarse, I am happy for that day just as it was. It was perfect. :)

Thank you thank you thank you!!! Seeing the same old wedding styles and trends gets to be so dull after a while. There is a growing place for modern approaches to weddings, and it's about time too! When the institute of marriage itself is changing so rapidly, it's only natural that people's approach to it should change as well.

I am in love with your finds for a modern wedding. Invitations especially looks extra amazing. Actually, my mom handmade all my invitations by sewing which was extra special for me...I wish I can repeat my wedding again though. There is so much to buy from Etsians.

Very nice finds! Frankly, they seem simple and elegant compared to the grandeur that Indian weddings are famous for. You must surely attend one Indian wedding. Marriages in India happen in specific months and the month of March is one. The bride is bejeweled with many ornaments and traditional attires. Every attendee is more concerned about how she looks and believe me her make up artist/beautician/tailors has a very tough task of balancing the demands of tradition and the fashion/trends in the marriage market. These days the bride to be gets many things custom made and lot of materials required to make them are available in handmades and supplies sections of etsy. Happy Wedding!

If my wife and I had even considered a regular wedding I would be so upset I didn't see this before. These are fantastic additions.

Actually, there are people here on Etsy who I will be using for my wedding. In fact, I found someone who does awesome favor boxes, one of my bridesmaids' gifts is from another vendor on here, and my gift to my husband-to-be was found on here. I wanted to use a mini-tophat and veil that another vendor made for me, but my mother is saying no to that. But, I will be getting custom shoes done as well!

I had a non-traditional wedding, and i'm proud to say my entire wedding ensemble was either Canadian or American made. I ordered my jewelery of here and re worked it, my corset, shirt and bustle came from Loriann37 and I got a fantastic leather belt with pockets and fringe from Chateauniftypop. The selection is very sweet. As for the wedding, I don't think it matters what kind of wedding you go with. If the person is right, even if the wedding is not what you have wanted or imagined, it is still beautiful.

I got my cake topper from Melabo! A kitten bride and chimp groom - it was exactly what I wanted and everyone loved it. It's now displayed in our dining room.

I recently discovered Brooklyn Bride on FB and must say I am hooked I like the fact that it is a modern bride which includes a wide variety of option's.While for some modern may mean unconventional ,untraditional which is amazing! some would like to incorporate tradition with their own aesthetic which truely read's to me as modern.

Great article and picks! I am 62 and my 26 year old is getting married. I have learned that most of my ideas come from weddings I attended in the 1970's. Those ideas seem to be very foreign to my daughter and I have had to get with the new way of doing things. Your article might help some others get up to speed!
