Part two in our AW16 trend series delivers a feminine colour palette, futuristic influences and juxtapositions such as man made meets nature and mega city meets quietness.
Trend #2 – Urban Bloom
This trend combines the demand for innovative technology and green spaces in an explosion of iridescence, florals, mirrors and geometrics. A graphic yet feminine aesthetic is born.
A feminine palette of moody darks mixed with delicate pales.
Create a soft winter look by combining pastel purples and pinks with dark grey and deep blue tones or, if these colours aren’t to your taste, why not try using stripes to introduce them as accent colours?
Shapes, Textiles, Patterns and Materials:
- Adding to the modern feminine vibe of this trend, organic petal shapes and scalloped edges are key features
- Textiles cement the sophisticated feel, with layered sheers, cotton knits and silk fabrics and yarns featuring heavily, contrast these with edgy modern hints of smart synthetics, and reversibles
- Oriental florals, micro florals, linear geos, cityscape photographic overlays, micro dots, grid and mesh patterns
- Laser cut metal, dark coloured mirror, iridescent and tinted glass, opaque plastic, embossed plastic, glossy ceramics, clear combined with opaque
What to look out for:
Ombre and colour blending: Ombre is still big for this A/W season. Try combining contrasting colours for a new take on the now classic trend, blurring and fading them into one. This is a hugely versatile technique, picture this being used on tableware, textiles, furniture and more.
Geometric floral combos: Dainty micro florals and delicate blossoms are intertwined with grids and intricate geometric patterns.
Oriental blooms: A key reference to this trends Asian city setting, pretty oriental blossoms are small scale, with a combination of flowers and dots scattered in confetti style. Scalloped petals and blossom flowers shapes provide a delicate element.
Tinted glass and mirror: Glassware and mirrors showcase this trends colours alongside beautiful iridescent hints. For maximum trend points combine aspects of opaque and clear glass!
Grid and mesh: Bring an urbanised, industrial aspect to the trend by introducing mesh and grid pattern details. Turn to big city architecture for a wealth of inspiration for patterns, shapes and materials.
Also look out for: Digital floral prints, laser cut surface patterns and perforated geometric detailing.
