Imagine if you could jump in a DeLorean and head back in time to give your younger self some advice: love the skin you’re in; trust in the wisdom of your parents; and don’t wear your ponytail so tight. A few weeks ago, Etsy UK got the chance to do the next best thing when we opened our doors to the first set of young women chosen as part of an outbox incubator program run by Stemettes.
Stemette (n): a female who has the capacity to go into one or more of the STEM fields
Stemettes is a national organisation set up by Anne-Marie Imafidon that seeks to inspire the next generation of women into Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) careers and challenge the trend of young entrepreneurs being dominantly male.
Here at Etsy’s London office we eagerly jumped at the chance to host a panel event for the group of 45 young entrepreneurs, aiming to give them an insight into life and chuck a cheeky bit of advice their way. In actual fact, after spending the afternoon with this group of motivated, intelligent and confident ladies, I think they gave us more inspiration then we handed over!
Being able to reach out to our community and encourage entrepreneurs, of all sizes and crafts, is a core value at Etsy and we are honoured to be able to support this, especially women in tech. Creative thinkers, designers and out-of-the-box creators are our ‘peeps’ and it is always amazing seeing the next generation having confidence in their ideas and building phenomenal businesses from this.
