12 reasons to come to Manmade this weekend

Our Manmade event, in collaboration with Crafty Fox Market and Mr Wingate, to celebrate ‘men wot make things’ is merely days away and we’re mega excited.

If you’re at a loose end in London this Friday 12th June (12 – 9pm) and Saturday 13th June (11 – 8pm), why not head down to The Old Truman Brewery where Manmade is taking place? If you’re a fella, you can get inspired by all our ‘mazing male makers, and don’t worry: we’ll still let you in if you’re female! In fact, this could be the perfect opportunity to introduce your boyfriend to the wonderful world of Etsy #justsayin…

Here are 12 reasons why you should come to Manmade:

1. It’s FREE

General admission will cost you ZERO PENCE, so you can swing by and browse the marketplace of over 50 male makers for free. Until, of course, you decide to buy something (and why wouldn’t you?), or attend one of the talks/workshops, then there’ll be an Etsy-shaped dent in your bank balance, soz.

2. Shop Etsy IRL

While shopping on the Interwebz is fast and convenient, ain’t no one REALLY got time for shipping costs and waiting around for your goods to turn up. This weekend, you can shop Etsy in real actual life, and get to MEET the person who made your product, which is pretty Inception-like, really.

3. You can learn new SKILLZ

There are a selection of workshops taking place over the weekend so you can get yo’ craft on and learn a new skill, from drop-in tote bag-printing, letter press-printing (above) and jewellery-making ones, through to pre-booked wire bird-making classes. Find out more and book here.

4. Inspirational talks to get you PSYCHED

We’ve got a programme of talks from inspirational  ‘men in design’ running over the weekend, including Wilfrid Wood (above), who’ll be speaking about his time at TV programme Spitting Image, making heads out of paper mâché, bodies out of polymer clay and his one and only sculpture made from wood. Find out more and book here.

5. Watch LIVE art with your eyes

Jimbob Art

You probably know him best for creating amazing ceramic side plates featuring bears in pants, but the LEGEND that is James Ward AKA JimbobArt will be illustrating LIVE over the weekend. Watch him and weep salty tears of joy at his serious drawing skills. Or maybe buy one of his ‘sandwich defender’ plates.

7. Get your beard trimmed!

Drink delicious craft beer from the Crafty Fox bar – we’re open into the evening (9pm Friday and 8pm Saturday), so come and hang out with us, while you listen to top CHOONS from the Crafty Fox Market DJs.

9. Eat all the food

French & Grace

French & Grace

We all know the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach (yeah, whatever), and the spread at Manmade is certainly not to be sniffed at! Fresh, hearty grub will be served up courtesy of French & Grace, and there’ll be edible treats on offer from some of our sellers – hel-LO homemade chipotle BBQ sauce!

10. FREE goody bags for the first few through the door!

If you’re one of the first 100 visitors at Manmade when the doors open at midday on Friday, you’ll receive a tote bag EXCLUSIVELY designed for us by Mr Wingate, full of fanciful man things. Ooh!

11. Meet the artists

12. Get in your dad’s good books

It’s Father’s Day in the UK on 21st June – if you’ve yet to get a gift sorted, Manmade could be the answer. You can either shop for something on Etsy IRL, or even better: bring him along and have a day out at Manmade with your dad.

If you fancy swinging by, you can find full event details, including talk times and workshop slots here.
