DIY glow-in-the-dark shelves

After Norwich-based Etsy seller Mat Brown shared this clever DIY for resin inlaid chestnut shelves on earlier this week, we couldn’t resist reposting the pictures here on the Etsy UK blog.

Mat, AKA Etsy shop Shinium, usually sells funky silver and wooden jewellery but wanted some new shelving in the kitchen (to store all the preserves he’s making, no less) and snaffled a 155cm long piece of chestnut from his local timber yard.

The wood was pretty heavily cracked and pitted, but he came up with the genius idea of filling the gaps with resin inlay, usually used to make invisible repairs – but Mat had a different approach.

He mixed his resin with glow-in-the-dark powder, to create shelves that are all business by day, party by night – look:

Mat’s not currently selling the shelves on his Etsy shop, but you can buy his glow-in-the-dark wooden jewellery. Or, if you’re feeling inspired, you can get the step-by-step tutorial over on his blog.

Do you think these shelves are a bit of all bright? Have you been inspired to get yo’ glow on, too? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @EtsyUK!
