Are you an artist? Do you sell your work on Etsy? If so, we invite you to apply to be part of our exhibition during London Art Month in October 2014. Accessible and real, join us to celebrate the art of Etsy!

Coinciding with world-renowned art fair Frieze during London Art Month in October 2014, Etsy will present an exciting cross-disciplinary exhibition of artworks by selected artists from our creative community in the UK.

The exhibition in London’s Brick Lane will not only showcase and sell amazing artwork but will explore the stories, motivation and processes of the artists involved. Open to the public from 17th – 19th October 2014, the exhibition will provide a platform for talented Etsy artists during one of the most important weeks of the art calendar.

Am I eligible to be part of the exhibition?

Space is very limited, but we are looking for artists who create limited edition works across a variety of disciplines to take part in the exhibition.

To participate in the Etsy art exhibition, you must:

  • Have an active Etsy shop (haven’t opened your shop yet? Don’t worry! You can get 20 FREE listings when you open your shop for this event. See details below…)
  • Make artworks that fit within one of the following categories: painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, illustration, photography, ceramic art, textile art, paper art
  • Be based in the United Kingdom
  • Be able to produce limited edition works
  • Be over 18 years of age
  • Be able to get your selected artworks to London by Tuesday October 14th 2014 (all unsold artworks will be returned)

Please note: the following disciplines are NOT eligible to apply this time: vintage products, jewellery, fashion, accessories, knitwear, toys, interior products, furniture, homeware, home textiles, home ceramics, food, garden products, wedding. (Apologies! This time we’re focussing on art, but there will be other opportunities for these disciplines coming up at a later date).

You do not need to have ever exhibited before, or have gallery representation, to participate.

Will people be able to buy my work at the exhibition?

Yes! All works exhibited must be available for sale in your Etsy shop, and visitors will be able to buy online while they are at the gallery. Visitors will be encouraged to view other works in your Etsy shop too. Purchased works will not be shipped until the exhibition closes, and any unsold works will be returned to you at the end of the exhibition.

Deadline for applications

Applications must be received by midnight on Tuesday 5th August 2014.

I don’t have an Etsy shop yet. Can I still apply?

If you are an artist not currently selling on Etsy, why not open a shop and apply? Get started with 20 free listings! Enter the code: ARTETSYUK at www.etsy.com/promotion (new sellers only).

If you make eligible art but it isn’t currently listed on your Etsy shop (or perhaps you are working on something that isn’t finished yet), please complete the form and include links to view your art online. Please ONLY include links to work that you have created yourself.

When will I know if I have been selected for the exhibition?

Exhibitors will be selected by a panel. We regret that we will not be able to inform all applicants of our decision, but successful applicants will be notified within one month of the application deadline. Once you have applied we may ask you questions about your work via convo, so please keep an eye out for us.

How to apply

Please submit this short application form to apply.

Applications close midnight, August 5th 2014.

Hi everyone thanks for your interest! To clarify a couple of common questions; you do NOT have to restrict your application to items currently or previously listed in your Etsy shop. If you make other work we'd love to see it! There is space in the form for you to submit links to other places to view your art (Flickr, Dropbox etc) - we just need to see an example of the art you wish to submit. Artists selected to participate in the exhibition WILL have time to create work especially for the exhibition. Shortlisted artists will be contacted by the selection panel to discuss which work will be included in the exhibition. Finally, if you're not sure whether your work is eligible - we encourage you to apply! We will review all applications thoroughly before selecting a shortlist. Good luck!

Hello again! Lots more good questions which I'll attempt to answer here...

    • You do not have to be present in London to exhibit your work - you could courier your work to London for the exhibition (as long as it is with us by Tuesday October 14th), but Etsy is not able to cover delivery costs. Only UK based artists are eligible to enter, however.
    • If your artwork is sold during the show, you will get it back on Sunday October 19th ready to deliver to your buyer as normal (buyers will pay your normal delivery fee, unless you provide multiple pieces and want to make some of them free delivery so visitors can take them away on the day).
    • Normal Etsy commission fees of 3.5% apply to any work that is sold at the exhibition via your Etsy shop. There is no fee to be part of the exhibition, but exhibitors will need to cover any costs of delivering or collecting their artwork.
    • Original artwork is eligible, as are limited edition prints or sculptures.
    If in doubt, APPLY!

such a Wonderful Idea... If I lived in the UK I'd probably open an Etsy photography shop just to be considered! I'm so impressed by all the wonderful innovative ideas that you guys are coming up with across the pond! I also really adored your "crafts in the window" event!!! I can't wait to see what wonderful promotions you'll come up with next!!!

  • konyskiw

Kim Onyskiw from konyskiw said 5 years ago

Yes, it'd be nice to know if you can post work and for some clarification on the limited edition thing. Is it original pieces you want or prints, or do you need us to have both? When you say "purchased works will not be shipped until the exhibition closes" does that mean you will be posting the sold work and therefore we have to give the postage costs to you? (and hope you package in a similar way to us so the postage costs we've set on etsy are enough to cover it). And as it seems to suggest you will post unsold works back to us does that mean there will also be more costs to cover for that (or anything else) or are you covering this all? Do the works have to be available to buy internationally?

last night I spent a good hour and a half filling in this application form...thinking about my answers carefully....explaining how I make everything...but I when it came to filling in the web address of my etsy shop (something which should have been quite straight forward), it didn't accept anything I put in and I couldn't even verify it any where on etsy. Am I missing something very obvious?! I have now lost all the information I spent so long typing in and can't face doing it all again to find myself in the same position....Please help!

    • Jo Casley said 5 years ago

Hi aartducko, sorry to hear you had problems with the form. The field where you enter your Etsy shop web address must be a URL - i.e. it must be formatted as a link, like www.etsy.com/shopname or http://shopname.etsy.com I hope that helps, let us know if you still have problems. thanks!

Hi, Is it possible to fill in the form offline? I can't manage it with the online form as I need to copy and paste the text for each section from a pages document I have written. There's too much otherwise and it needs thought and research. I also need to get my url's from their actual we pages and each time I exit the form and come back, only clicking on a different tab, leaving this one open still, it wipes everything I have written so that I have to start again. I am beginning to despair and contemplate giving up. Otherwise I might still be at it well over the deadline, which is terrifyingly close seeing as I only found out about the competition in the latest newsletter. At which point, I didn't even have a shop. Please, if there is a way to download and fill in and save and send via email back, I would love to know. :)

My internet connection here hasn't been great over the last couple of days and now I'm worried it didn't get through properly, especially as I posted a comment on this blog at the same time and that hasn't showed up!
