It’s time for this year’s Craft Party! Mark your calendars, get your creative juices flowing, and let everyone know, this year’s Etsy Craft Party will take place on Friday 6th June, 2014. Our theme is Recapture; bring new meaning to old photographs. Find a special photograph, perhaps one that carries personal memories and nostalgia. With needle and thread or paint and pen, transform that old photograph into a new handmade heirloom.

Every year people from around the world come together in locally organised Craft Parties on the same day to create and inspire each other. In 2013, over 11,000 people joined in on an Etsy Craft Party in towns across the globe. We invite you to organise or join a Craft Party in your own town! To give you time to get ready to do so, we are letting you know the date and theme today. More information will follow in the next few weeks so that as you head into full Craft Party planning, we’ll give you plenty of fun ideas to inspire you along the way.

Why host a Craft Party?

Well first and foremost, because it’s fun! Craft Parties are a great way to get your creative juices flowing. Working in a new medium can spur new ideas for your own work. Additionally, being a seller can sometimes feel like a lonely endeavour. An Etsy Craft Party is a great opportunity to meet fellow Etsians or team members face to face.

For the team captains out there, listen up! Bring awareness to your team and to your shops by hosting a Craft Party. It’s a great place to showcase the talent of all the sellers in your team! Every Craft Party needs some crafty goodies. Try these three tips for promoting your Team members’ shops through a Craft Party:

Swag Bags

Decorate some pretty totes or kraft bags and fill them with small items from team members’ shops. Include a team catalogue, team lookbook or everyone’s business cards.Read how one seller found promotional success with her first lookbook.

Giveaways

Create a team gift box of items from participating members’ shops and host a giveaway for attendees during the party.  Don’t forget to add a pretty list of contributors’ shop addresses so that the winner can find everyone on Etsy afterwards. Check out thisDIY on making pretty bags to use for your giveaways.

 Post-Party Promotion

Provide a special team-specific coupon to give out to all attendees for discounts in participating team shops after the event. Make sure everyone activates the coupon with the discount amount right before the party.Learn more about using coupon codes for promotion.

Adding these elements to your party will not only make it more festive, but will also get people excited and anxious to join in.

We’ll have more details in the coming weeks, but since we know hosting a well-prepared party takes some planning, we wanted to give you as much notice as possible.

Have you participated in a Craft Party in the past? What was your favourite part?
