It was Coco Chanel who established costume jewellery by designing pieces from non-precious materials as part of her collections. Today costume jewellery remains a popular creative field for designers – and the largest product category on Etsy.
Etsy and the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe (Museum of Arts and Trades, MKG) in Hamburg are using the occasion of the exhibition “The Chanel Legend”, which from Feb 28 to May 18, 2014 celebrates Coco Chanel’s legacy at MKG, to highlight the scope of creativity being applied to costume jewellery today.
So we have organised the competition “Schmuck wie Coco” to showcase your very own costume jewellery designs, which has gone live today. Post photos of pieces you’ve created on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter between 10th – 30th March, using the hashtag #schmuckwiecoco.
A selection of the best pieces will be shown every day on the MKG’s blog Stilbrise. Additionally, on March 17, 24 and 31 the Stilbrise editors and MKG’s curators will choose one winner, who will receive a “Schmuck wie Coco” package: two tickets for the exhibition, an exclusive exhibition poster that is not available for purchase, and an Etsy gift card worth 50 Euros.
