The New Listing Page: Better Shopping, More Personality

The listing page, which is an item’s product information page, is often a visitor’s first impression of Etsy. These first impressions matter. Across the site, listing pages garner nearly 15 million total views a day and are the most popular pages on Etsy! Our goal is for every visitor, especially new Etsy visitors, to have a great shopping experience and to understand what makes Etsy so special right off the bat. Introducing the all-new listing page: easier to navigate with more personality.

The changes we made to the listing page reflect what we think is most important about the Etsy experience. The designers, makers and curators behind each item are what make our marketplace so unique. We’re making it clearer that shoppers are buying directly from creative, independent businesses by surfacing shop profiles or “About Pages”, integrating more shop identity and items, and adding a more transparent way to get in touch with the seller for additional questions or custom requests.

To make it easier to get all the details you’ll need to check out quickly, we’ve also moved key information, like where an item is coming from and what materials were used to make it, near the Add to Cart button. Postage rates, shop policies, and feedback are now also more organised and visible with neat tabs in the description section.

Look for this new shopping experience on August 6, 2013.

For sellers: how does it affect me?

The new listing page uses all of your existing listing page content, so there’s nothing you’ll need to update. For those who want to take full advantage of the features, check out these tips on how to get the most out of the new design.

We’ve spent months testing many iterations of the design and the results confirmed that this new version performs better than the current one. Visitors are more likely to make a purchase, add shops to their Favourites, and browse more listings! Shoppers who start on this new listing page are also less likely to leave immediately and more likely to spend extra time in your shop and discover an item they love.

    I don't agree with the shipping rates being under an extra tab, I think it's going to cause more problems than it's worth when people think that they get free shipping as "it doesn't mention it on the front", but apart from that it looks very interesting.

    good luck with the change, I hope it does work well! 1 comment though - The pictures in the listing DO need to be adjusted now. As all photos are inserted into a grey frame - if they are not in the correct dimensions one can see that grey frame and it doesn't look so great..

    I love the new look, Its so much more streamlined and modern with the curves not to mention the new product info on the right of the photograph making it easier to see more about each product

    I love that the photos are bigger, and it shows other items in your shop that are similar, so that could encourage browsing around your items.

    I love the new listing layout, I saw it in my shop last week for some reason (thought it must have already changed over) and was really pleasantly surprised. Think it's great that policies are much easier to find too, will hopefully save problems and disputes from occurring.

    I also find the new look much more informative and professional. However I do agree with creativeclassics, having the shipping on a separate page might lead to confusion. Apart from that, bouquets all round!

    I think it looks great, it always frustrated me that finding out about the maker was not a more prominent feature, its one of the most amazing aspects behind all the items for sale is a maker and a real person. Love it, can't wait for 6th August!

    I was a part of the pilot on this project to change the listings and must say that I did actually have an increase in sales shortly after mine were switched over. Now if that's because of advertising or the listing it's hard to say. BUT I know for sure that bigger pictures is NEVER a drawback. I hope others have success with it once it's rolled out en-mass.

    I dislike that the shipping costs seem "tucked away" as almost an afterthought. This is a little misleading - some customers may expect free shipping because of this. Other than that, though - I love the change. It's bright, clean and aesthetically pleasing. :)

    Etsy, the new listing pages are AWESOME! I love how customer feedback is easy to find, and information about sellers is more accessible too. It allows shoppers to really get a feel for the personality of your shop very quickly. They see the person behind the products, and the customers who love them! So... we signed up for the new listings pages early: are we the only ones seeing this new format in our shop or do our customers see it right now too?

    It's very different and I don't really like the fact that the tags are now more visible. However, I do like how the new listing images are presented.

    The "Request a Custom Item" is not a good thing for me. There are multiple facets to creating something for a bride and the "Request" has been confusing the buyers at my shop. I have always sent them a list of what to consider (things they don't think about) and that works well. EVERY item I make is custom. Every bride is different in their demands. I have some that just want 'a gift' and others who want all the details. I need a place to put the details for them to think about. My other option is to do no customizing and just offer 'generic' hankies. "Request Custom Items" might be better as an option. Pat

    Yay! Much cleaner and simpler; removes any possibility of confusion and (hopefully!) means the buyer is more likely to take the leap of faith :)

    Great post, thanks. I like the new look, although I am new to Etsy so wasn't used to the old one. I look forward to selling my handmade jewelry on Etsy and hope this new look gives us sellers a boost!

    I am very much enjoying the new layout, but just yesterday I encountered my first hiccup. A customer requested a custom digital item from the 'Request custom item' option of the listing. When I accepted to make the item, there was no option of uploading the digital file, and I was requested to add a shipping profile. Thankfully I have one that is for free shipping and chose that. The next step then was the message being sent to my client. i had to edit the created listing from my listing manager in order to select the 'digital file' option and upload the file. I don't think this confused my customer, but maybe the next one will find it odd that they are receiving a message telling them that the request for a physical item has been accepted and will be shipped in X time? I hope I was able to explain this correctly. thanks

    I am not loving the new star system the yellow is a little garish and the stars are a tad tacky!
