Statement pieces and comeback trends are topping the lists this season

This year, maximalism has taken center stage and our wardrobes are no exception. Shoppers are tossing out muted looks and swapping in over-the-top pieces, like bold brooches and statement-making hair accessories.
And you may recognize some of these trends from previous decades – shoppers are pulling cues from the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s for this season. So whether shoppers are looking for an authentic vintage piece from years past or a modern approach to a comeback trend, we’re here with the must-have list for this fall season.
ACCESSORIES
Silk scarves
The silk scarf is one of the most versatile and playful trends this season. Whether worn as a necktie, belt, headband, or other variation, this vintage-inspired trend is quickly becoming a style staple for fashionista’s everywhere. We’ve already seen interest on Etsy ticking higher for silk scarves in the last three months, with searches for vintage silk scarves popping almost 30% (compared to the same time period the previous year). We’re confident that this trend is here to stay.
Brooches
While previously associated with grandmothers, I’m predicting that brooches will be making a major comeback for shoppers of all ages: searches for vintage brooches are up 4% on Etsy in the last three months (compared to the same time period the previous year). These attention-grabbing baubles are the ultimate maximalist accessory, making it easy to elevate any outfit with pops of texture, shapes, and colors.
Hair accessories
Bring on the butterfly clips – hair accessories are back in a big way. We first saw the return of ‘90s-inspired hair accessories with scrunchies, and now the trend is evolving to include updated versions of barrettes, headbands, and hairpins that offer colorful florals, sparkling crystals, and interesting textures (looking at you, velvet). On Etsy, there have been over 1,800,000 searches for headbands in the last three months alone. And pearl hairpins and barrettes are definitely trending – both up more than 30% in the last three months (compared to the same time period the previous year).
JEWELRY
Pearl hoops
With both pearls and hoop earrings showing up everywhere this year, it’s no surprise that the freshest jewelry trend combines both styles for the ultimate fall look. Shoppers are loving this contemporary take on the classic, and are turning to us for inspiration: searches on Etsy for pearl hoops have increased 226% in the last three months (compared to the same time period the previous year), making this one of the hottest trends we’re seeing this season. Even better, shoppers can experiment with different shapes, proportions, and forms to make this trend their own.
Charm bracelets
One of my top predictions for fall jewelry is the return of the nostalgic charm bracelet. But I’m not talking about the styles from our childhoods – this season, charm bracelets are getting a grown-up revamp, with chunkier chains and elevated pendants, making them a modern jewelry staple that every jewelry box should have. In fact, we’ve already seen over 360,000 searches on Etsy for charm bracelets in the last three months alone – telling us that shoppers are ready to add some charm to their arms, and I predict those numbers will only go up from here.
FASHION
Patchwork pieces
Patchwork, the quilt-esque style that took over the ‘90s, is having another moment: on Etsy, searches for patchwork items have increased 5% in just the last three months (compared to the same time period the previous year). Sellers are putting their creative skills to the test, mixing-and-matching fabrics and patterns – like suede, floral prints, and denim – to create eye-catching pieces with a modern flair. And for shoppers looking for an authentic retro piece, there are thousands of vintage options to choose from on Etsy.
Suit sets
Perhaps it’s another nod to the ‘90s, but Pantsuit Nation has transformed into the ultimate Cool Girl must-have. No longer reserved for the corporate office, pantsuits are showing up anywhere and everywhere, in styles ranging from feminine to masculine (hello again, shoulder pads), and handmade to vintage. On Etsy, there has been a 17% increase in searches for suit sets in the last three months (compared to the same time period the previous year), as shoppers suit up.
Urban cowgirl
Southwestern style has taken over our homes, and now it’s making its way into our closets. Shoppers are channeling their inner cowgirls (and boys) with sophisticated fringe, rancher hats, and embellished denim. On Etsy, shoppers are taking note: searches for cowboy hats has spiked 30% in the last three months (compared to the same time period the previous year). I also predict a spike in cowboy boots moseying around town as the temperature starts to drop. Giddy up!
For the guys: vintage rings, necklaces, and bolo ties.
For the first time ever, we’re revealing the latest jewelry trends for men. In fact, on Etsy there has been a 14% increase in searches for bolo ties, a 7% increase in searches for men’s vintage rings, and a 5% increase in searches for men’s necklaces in the last three months (compared to the same time the previous year). It’s safe to say that guys want more than just the traditional watch this season.
