Late last year, I had the unbelievable opportunity to work on a top-secret, new project with NBC (in fact, it was so underwraps that my own family had no idea what whisked me away to Los Angeles for an entire month). Now, I’m shouting from the rooftops and am beyond excited to share that I’ll be serving as a judge on the upcoming crafting competition, Making It, premiering July 31 at 10pm ET on NBC. I’m joining fellow judge Simon Doonan (Creative Ambassador for Barneys) and executive producers and hosts Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman as eight contestants compete to win hand embroidered patches each week, and…$100,000! The show is a true celebration of creativity, imagination, and improvisation, Making It will bring together artists and craftspeople from across the creative spectrum—from woodworkers to felt experts and everyone in between—to complete weekly themed challenges that put their ingenuity (and paintbrush-wielding prowess) to the test.
The filming process was a dream. Not only did Amy and Nick create a warm and fun environment, the contestants kept Simon and me on our toes each week by blowing us away with their creativity and enormous talent. Making It is heartwarming, motivating, and of course hilarious.
Throughout the season we’re encouraging those of you watching at home to get inspired and put down your phones to make something! To get you started we’ve outlined show-stopping projects for you and your family and friends to do together. Don’t forget to tune in and follow my instagram @daynaisomjohnson and #MakingIt for all the behind the scenes footage. Now, as we say to the contestants make it!”
