As Etsy continues to evolve, our board of directors is also evolving. In December, we announced that Michele Burns had joined the board. Today, we’re welcoming a new board member, Melissa Reiff.
Melissa is president and COO of The Container Store, and combines more than 30 years of deep operating experience in retail with incredible personal warmth and enthusiasm. She will join the Etsy board in April.
I’ve admired Melissa’s work at The Container Store from afar for quite some time. Aside from being a great business, The Container Store is a leader in the “Conscious Capitalism” movement that very much aligns with how we think about business at Etsy. Much like us, they are known for having a strong, values-based culture. When Melissa and I first spoke, we talked about maintaining and strengthening culture throughout the process of becoming a public company and beyond. I’m looking forward to partnering with her and learning from her as we continue to grow and scale Etsy.
Melissa shares, “I am excited and honored to serve on Etsy’s Board of Directors. The company’s ability to craft creative communities and global connections is important and inspiring. The brand’s unique personality and fun spirit, along with its conscious leadership and culture, are contagious. I look forward to learning from everyone at Etsy, while also adding value and contributing in a positive, gracious and thoughtful manner to help the company reach its full potential.”
With Melissa joining, Danny Rimer from Index Ventures is stepping off of the board. As companies make the private-to-public transition, it’s typical for investors to start to move off of the board, allowing for new, independent directors like Melissa. I want to thank Danny for his service on the board, and for being a great friend to me and the company over the past almost-five years.
In Danny’s own words: “It’s been my pleasure and honor to serve on Etsy’s board alongside Chad and the rest of the directors. Under Chad’s leadership, the company has evolved into the unique and exciting company it is today. I look forward to supporting the team not only as a past colleague, but also as a friend and customer.”
We welcome Melissa into our community as we prepare for the next phase of the company, and I look forward to her contributions in the coming months and years.
