Etsy ASAP Connects Shoppers with Local Sellers for Same or Next-Day Delivery in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens

Relationships between creative entrepreneurs and thoughtful consumers are core to the Etsy Economy and the strength of our communities, both locally and globally. An important part of the unique Etsy experience is the connection shoppers can have to the artisans and creators who live and work in their neighborhoods. Now we’re taking the next step in our commitment to facilitate these connections, and make it even easier for shoppers to find and support local businesses. Today we’re officially launching Etsy ASAP, a pilot program for the holiday season that enables same and next-day delivery from participating sellers in New York City. In partnership with on-demand logistics company, Postmates, we’re making it possible for buyers to discover, buy, and receive unique items direct from a local seller, all within the same or next day for a flat fee of $20. It’s easy to search and explore more than 5,000 products available for Etsy ASAP delivery on both desktop and mobile from the Etsy App. Shoppers can start exploring a variety of products -- vintage, handmade, and supplies -- across categories including everything from jewelry and housewares to Halloween costumes and birthday gifts here. (More than half of buyers surveyed said they would use Etsy ASAP for last minute gifts!). Shoppers will also be able to filter their searches to display only items available for Etsy ASAP delivery by selecting it under Delivery Options on desktop, or as a filter on mobile. Etsy ASAP will also appear on individual listing pages as well as within the cart at checkout. Products will change throughout the pilot period, so shoppers can check back regularly to see what shops are newly offering delivery through Etsy ASAP, or what new items are being offered. Once a shopper selects Etsy ASAP at checkout they can choose from three hour delivery windows, based on the seller’s availability (orders placed after 7PM are eligible for next-day). Powered by the Postmates API, sellers have total control and flexibility, and can set their pick-up availability and change it at any time. After a seller receives an order, they can request a pickup straight from their Etsy Orders page, and Postmates will find a nearby courier to fulfill the delivery. Sellers can see the progress of the assigned courier, and once the package is picked up, both the shopper and seller can track in real-time from the Etsy app or desktop site until the package is delivered. The Etsy ASAP pilot follows the recent launch of the new Etsy Local mobile experience that helps shoppers on-the-go find Etsy items and sellers nearby, at both events or local shops. Similar to experiences like those at craft fairs and markets, Etsy ASAP makes it easier for shoppers to discover and support local makers. For sellers, Etsy ASAP offers them the ability to connect with new customers, provide better service and deepen relationships right where they matter. "We're super excited about Etsy ASAP- its immediacy and "buy local" spirit create a more intimate connection with our customers that didn't exist before, plus it's cool to be able to provide the perfect handmade product in a pinch!" -Aimee Schiwal from Hook And Matter Etsy ASAP is available now to shoppers based in Manhattan, parts of Brooklyn, and Queens. After the initial pilot, running throughout the holiday season, we’ll be looking at buyer and seller feedback to decide what’s next for this program. Start exploring Etsy ASAP here.
