While we may try to be mindful of our resource usage 365 days a year, there’s no day like Earth Day to take a step back and try something new. So today at Etsy HQ, we’re launching a reusable cup exchange program! Certainly, hand-thrown ceramic vessels and sandblasted pint glasses are the norm from desk to kitchen, but who hasn’t heard the mid-afternoon siren song of a latte to go?

To cut down on the number of disposable beverage containers that pass through our hands, we’re offering 16oz jars with cuppow lids and cozies that we designed in house and manufactured with Freaker.

Etsy Admin lend hands for team assembly.

We’ve set up three modular stations around the office so that folks can grab a clean cup on their way out the door, and then drop it in the dirty bin when they return. We also connected with local vendors — like Brooklyn Roasting Company and One Girl Cookies — to provide a discount for Etsy Admin who brought our reusable cup when purchasing beverages (just on the off chance that saving the planet isn’t a big enough incentive).

Going green as a business is certainly a process. We’re proud of our composting program and public waste reduction goals, but we know there is still much work to be done. Even the smallest initiative can have a big impact! How are you celebrating Earth Day?
