May Making in California

May 1, 2012

by Julie Schneider handmade and vintage goods

Hello, creative Californians! We have a great slate of creative programming in your great state this month, all in the spirit of embellished hand-sewing. Join in the fun on Thursday, May 3: in L.A., make Victorian-inspired embroideries, and in San Francisco, cross-stitch a brooch for Mother’s Day.

Craft Night at Craft and Folk Art Museum in L.A.

Meet craft legend Mark Montano at this month’s Los Angeles Craft Night and make an iconic hand-stitched image. Mark will demonstrate a basic embroidery stitch and have a range of dynamic black & white images for you to choose from — think Victorian refinement meets handcrafted cool! All supplies will be provided, and you’ll get to keep the embroidery hoops and floss. A very special thank you to Create For Less for sponsoring tonight’s event. $7 admission includes materials, drinks, and snacks. Free admission for members of CAFAM. RSVP is suggested:

When: Thursday, May 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. PT at CAFAM.
Where: The Craft and Folk Art Museum, 5814 Wilshire Blvd (at Curson), Los Angeles, CA 90048

Craft Bar at Museum of Craft & Folk Art in S.F.

Local Bay Area crafter extraordinaire Steph Cortes of nerdJERK  will be giving you an itch to cross-stitch at this month’s Craft Bar. Steph will lead a DIY cross-stitch pin workshop on how to make the perfect present for Mother’s Day (or some flair for another rad person in your life).  Craft Bar’s Stitch and Bitch will be making a return this month, so bring your knitting needles and yarn, or use the Museum’s supplies.  As always, MOCFA supports liquid courage in crafting, so adult beverages will be available.  $5 covers admission, tips, tricks, and materials.

When: Thursday, May 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. PT at MOCFA.
Where: Museum of Craft and Folk Art at 51 Yerba Buena Lane, San Francisco, CA
