UPDATE: Maker Faire San Mateo was a huge hit! We loved connecting with our community and most of all, we loved having our community create treasuries with our Whack-a-Treasury game. We made almost 500 treasuries in one weekend! (Photos are available in our Flickr pool.)

Now the challenge begins. Can Detroit whack more treasuries in two days? We are working closely with the Metro Detroit Etsy Team to highlight some of the great local goods available on Etsy, so come out and connect with your local team and Etsy. Our own Justin Kerr Sheckler will be presenting how we created  the game using our API and how it continues to improve. Check out his Code as Craft blog post for more details.

New Yorkers will have their turn September 17 and 18, 2011 at World Maker Faire in Corona Park.

Mix a dash of DIY, a healthy dose of craft, a handful of robots, and lots of hacking and you get Maker Faire. For the past six years, Maker Faire — which dubs itself the ultimate 21st century county fair — has united hackers, tech heads and crafters for a festival of innovation. This year they’ve added mini community-run fairs in Toronto, Vancouver, Kansas City, Ann Arbor, and North Carolina.

With a heavy focus on DIY, you will not leave without making something, and this year you can add an Etsy Treasury to the mix! Come visit the Etsy booth May 21-22, 2011 at Maker Faire San Mateo to play a game we’ve developed just for the event. You can find us next to our friends at Spoonflower, Burdastyle, and Simplicity — who have great projects to keep you sewing, cutting and creating!

Maybe California is too far for you to attend? How about Detroit?

The Maker Faire in Detroit, Michigan has announced its call for makers, which will close on June 1, 2011. The event will take place at The Henry Ford at 20900 Oakwood Blvd on July 30-31, 2011.

Will we see you there?
