In the age of social media, it seems that just about everyone (from political figures to cats) has a Facebook Page. Similarly, Follow buttons with the Twitter logo are showing up on your favorite food trucks and at your local boutiques.

With hundreds of millions of members active on these sites around the world, businesses big and small are getting in on the action and finetuning their social media presence. Etsy sellers are no exception — many of you are using Facebook Pages to create and maintain a following for your Etsy shops, and tweeting throughout the day to let buyers in on the goings-on of your shop life. We want to make it easy for you to promote your Etsy shop in these ways, so starting today we are making it possible for you to link your Etsy shop to your Facebook Page and Twitter account!

To connect, simply visit your shop’s Info & Appearance page and click Connect with Facebook and Connect with Twitter.  If you administer multiple Pages on Facebook, you’ll be given the option to choose one. Linking your shop only takes a minute, and then you get a nice new Like and Follow button on your shop home — inviting all your visitors to connect with you on Facebook and Twitter.

Connecting your shop to Facebook and Twitter allows your visitors to establish a connection with you off of Etsy, too. When a shopper Likes your shop on Etsy, they will become a fan of your Page on Facebook. That means that when that shopper goes to Facebook, they can see updates you publish to your shop’s Page in their News Feed. This is different from the previous experience of Liking a shop on Etsy, which did not establish the ongoing Facebook connection. If you already have fans of your Facebook Page, you’ll see that number reflected on Etsy when you link your accounts!

With this direct connection between your Etsy shop and your Facebook Page and Twitter account, it’s now easier than ever to promote the new items you list in your shop to your Facebook and Twitter contacts. This is exciting, and requires some learning, as simply tweeting and posting all your new items to Facebook and Twitter could get overwhelming for your fans and followers.

We want to help you craft the right messages to send to your fans and followers, so we have some exciting events and posts coming up every day next week, including our Almost Internet Famous event, featuring a panel of Twitter and Facebook experts! (Register here). We’ll be announcing the full schedule on Monday.

In the meantime, we’re curious to hear your secrets for success on Facebook and Twitter! What kind of items should you tweet about? What kind of posts do your Facebook fans react to? Share your Facebook tips in this thread and your Twitter tips here.
