What do Brooklyn, Baltimore, and San Francisco all have in common? Well, probably many things, but this week these cities are all host to creative events where you’re invited to try your hand at new crafts, including making felt silhouette bracelets, pressing pinback buttons, and honing latent drawing skills. So, grab your coat, tell your friends, or look for us online!
I Heart Art Craft Hour in Baltimore
The American Craft Council Show is a gathering of more than 700 contemporary jewelry, clothing, furniture and home decor artists from across the country. Amid this handmade show, the I Heart Art: Baltimore crew is invading for an hour of making and socializing.
You’re invited to stop by and get hands-on experience with bookmaking, polymer clay, and button-making, as well as meet and greet with members of BEST (the local sellers’ Baltimore Etsy Street Team) and Admin from Etsy and Maryland Institute College of Art. The event begins at 6 p.m., and admission after 6 is only $6 (normally $16). For more information, visit the ACC’s website here.
When: Friday, February 25 from 6 to 7 p.m. ET in the demo area
Where: American Craft Council Show at the Baltimore Convention Center, 1 West Pratt Street, Baltimore, MD
Craft Night at Etsy Labs in Brooklyn
Would you like to learn to draw, but don’t know where to start? Then join us for a 15-minute mini-drawing workshop with Carla Sonheim, the artist and author behind the book Drawing Lab, designed to put the fun back into drawing. (Carla also shared a sweet paper doll making project from her book for this week’s How-Tuesday post.) We’ll make a series of non-threatening exercises including wrong-handed portraits, one-line drawings, and more. You’ll finish the drawing session creating a one-liner elephant and Picasso Dog, and spend the rest of your evening adding even more personality to your creations by incorporating color. Carla will demo a multi-layered approach using materials you most likely already have at home: a pencil, a Sharpie, a few colored pencils and cheap markers. Drawing is fun! Come and see.
Where: 55 Washington Street, Suite 712 (7th floor) Brooklyn, New York, 11201 When: Monday, February 28. Drop in for hourly demos at 4:15, 5:15, 6:15, and 7:15 p.m.
Online: For those of you who can’t make it in person, we’ll be doing a live demo via Livestream (instead of the Virtual Labs). You can check out the feed right on the Etsy Community page.
