With farmer’s market season upon us, it’s a perfect time to learn how to sew your own bags for toting home a summer’s bounty. In that spirit, we invite you to join us Monday, June 6 for a workshop with our pals, Bags for the People, at the Etsy Labs in Brooklyn, NY (and online). This week we will have two sewing sessions at Craft Night, so please RSVP on Meetup accordingly.
Bags for the People is a non-profit organization that provides the public with a sustainable alternative to plastic bags. They use all repurposed materials and give out bags for free. Bags for the People also perform community building workshops and events (like this one!) to convince people to make the switch from plastic to reusable and inspire the public to take an active and creative role in life.
We’ll have all the materials you’ll need to sew a bag of your own here at the Etsy Labs, including sewing supplies and lovely BERNINA sewing machines. If you have any other fabric or old clothing that you would like to turn into bags, please bring that along.
If you are attending Craft Night virtually this week and would like to stitch up some bags along with us, you’ll need to gather the following supplies:
- Fabric (an old T-shirt would do the trick)
- Sewing machine, or a sewing needle
- Large safety pin
- Download Bags for the People’s instructions
