This week we’re combining two of my favorite activities, eating and bookbinding, with the aid of one of my most admired bookbinders and teachers. Esther K. Smith is the author of titles including How to Make Books, and one half of Purgatory Pie Press, a dynamic bookbinding and letterpress printing duo who use only real wood and metal movable type. Esther will be leading a workshop on how to make flag book cookbooks.

I do hope you’ll join us on Monday, September 13 for our next edition of the weekly Craft Night at the Etsy Labs in Brooklyn, NY.

This week you’ll need to bring two things:

  • Your favorite recipes to share
  • A dish to share— it’s a pot luck, after all!
(Hint: Bring the recipe of the dish you bring for true brownie points.)

The Craft Night scoop:

Where: 55 Washington Street, Suite 512 in Brooklyn, New York, 11201
When: Monday, September 13 from 4-8 p.m. ET (Post photos of your finished pieces in the Etsy Labs Show & Tell Flickr group afterwards!)
What: Don’t forget to bring a dish and recipe to share.

And, online: Live far away? Join us online at 5 p.m. ET for a live how-to demo in the Virtual Labs, our online multi-user chat room. (See what time 5 p.m. ET is in your hometown.)

If you are attending Craft Night virtually this week and would like to craft along with us, you’ll need to gather the following supplies:

  • Recipe cards — use index cards or cut your own from card stock
  • Heavy, foldable paper
  • Cover — raw book-binding board or museum board, or recycle old book covers, boxes, etc.
  • Double-stick tape or bookbinding paste or glue
  • Bone folder
  • Scissors
  • Decorative end papers (optional)
  • Take a peek at the instructions.

Upcoming Events at the Etsy Labs in Brooklyn:
9/24: Sew with Mummy Sam, as part of the DUMBO Arts Festival
9/27: Recycle T-Shirts with Threadless
10/4: Craft with Erin from P.S. I Made This
10/11: Craft Night is Canceled
