Come Make Glass Ornaments With LoucheLab at Etsy Labs

Dec 2, 2010

by Julie Schneider handmade and vintage goods

It’s time to dust off that box of decorations, spruce up your space with some seasonal decor, and join us at Craft Night for a free workshop dedicated to making glass ornaments. Aya Rosen from LoucheLab wlll be joining us at the Etsy Labs to share her skills and know-how for decorating glass ball ornaments with Pebeo Vitrea paints.

Do you count yourself among the I-can’t-draw set? Well, fear not! This project is designed for you too. As long as you know how to hold a pen and write, you’ll learn how to make a beautiful ornament. For a sneak peek of this project, check out this week’s How-Tuesday post, complete with instructions and photos. This is a fun project for a group and a range of ages and skill levels, so even if you’re based far away from Brooklyn, NY, I invite you to host your own Craft Night!

The Craft Night scoop:

Where: 55 Washington Street, Suite 512 in Brooklyn, New York, 11201
When: Monday, December 6 from 4-8 p.m. ET
RSVP here

And, online: Live far away? Join us online at 5 p.m. ET for a live how-to demo in the Virtual Labs, our online multi-user chat room. (See what time 5 p.m. ET is in your hometown.)

If you are attending Craft Night virtually this week and would like to craft along with us, you’ll need to round up the following supplies & read this week’s How-Tuesday post:

  • Glass orb Christmas ornament (available at craft stores, discount stores or almost anywhere). I used clear, but you can also use light colored ones
  • Pebeo Vitrea 160 markers in 2 or more colors.
  • Pebeo Porcelaine 150 fine tip marker in black (optional)
  • Pebeo Vitrea 160 paints in the colors of your choice and a brush (optional)

Upcoming Events with the Etsy Labs:
12/13: Pet Portrait Embroidery with Cindy Steiler from Craft-In
12/20: Open Craft Night
12/21: Church of Craft meeting at Etsy Labs
12/27: Craft Night is cancelled until late January 2011 — we’ll keep you posted!

I love glass ball ornaments. What a great activity to do with a group of people. Last year, I decorated mini ornament balls by filling them with extra scraps of thread from all my cross stitch projects. It was a great use of scraps and all the colors of the thread look great against the multi-colored lights of the tree.
