We are pleased to announce crafting events in three cities this week! Join the Etsy Labs in Brooklyn, Portland, and San Francisco (and online!) for free hands-on community-oriented workshops to get your creative wheels turning. So, read on for thrice the crafting fun…
Crafting in Brooklyn, NY:
Open Craft Night at the Etsy Labs
Monday, August 30, we’re hosting an open Craft Night at the Etsy Labs. Rather than an organized craft, we invite you to dive into any project that piques your interest. Bring along any craft you would like to develop during this week’s Craft Night, or start a brand new project using our tools and extra supplies.
When: Monday, August 30, 2010. Drop in any time between 4 to 8 p.m. ET.
Where: Etsy Labs at 55 Washington Street, Suite 512, Brooklyn, NY
Crafting in Portland, OR:
Craftacular!: A Community Craft Night
As part of the I Heart Art collaboration, PNCA and Etsy are hosting the first in a series of community craft nights on Tuesday! Make something, meet new people and help craft a community in a positive, creative environment.
Get your craft on summer-camp-style with vintage-inspired merit badges! Torie Nguyen (a.k.a. totinette) and Cathy Pitters (a.k.a bossanovababy), pictured on the right, from Crafty Wonderland will lead a workshop guiding us through the steps to make embroidered patches that will bring you back to your days at camp. The project involves embellishing fabric circles with simple embroidered images depicting your favorite activities — think camping, biking, sewing, etc. Fabric pens will also be on hand for those who don’t feel handy with a needle and thread. Come join us for some old school fun!
Crafting in San Francisco, CA:
Craft Bar With Etsy Labs at the Museum of Craft and Folk Art
Fall is coming and the time has come to put away that tee shirt you’ve been living in all summer. Why not revamp it? This month Craft Bar goes green with a night of T-shirt recycling! Bring an old shirt and turn it into a fun project.
Not quite ready for your favorite tee to start a new life? Stop by for the perennial favorite, Stitch ‘n Bitch, with drop-in instruction in knitting and crocheting. Don’t forget to take inspiration from the gallery and the store while you explore the creative process. Craft Bar is free with $5 admission to the gallery.
When: Thursday, September 2, 2010 from 6 to 9 p.m. PT. Online demo at 1 p.m. PT in the Virtual Labs. We’ll live online, making bags and braided necklaces from recycled T-shirts.
Where: Museum of Craft and Folk Art at 51 Yerba Buena Lane, San Francisco, CA.
