Paul “Sweet Paul” Lowe is guided by his grandmother Mormor’s motto: “fullkommenhet er kjedelig” — “perfection is boring.” Born in Oslo, his Mormor and Great Auntie Gunnvor instilled in him a love for cooking and crafting that carried over to his career in New York as a food and props stylist, and eventually the creative guru behind the quarterly Sweet Paul Magazine, a compendium of beautiful culinary and crafting ideas that are humble and accessible — but never boring!
It’s getting more and more common to bring your pooch to your wedding. And why not? They are a part of the family, after all. Whether your pup has a role in the ceremony (ring bearer, escort, best man’s-best-friend) or just a front-row seat for the big event, he needs to look smart. Here are some snazzy sartorial suggestions, all sourced from Etsy sellers and featured in the first-ever weddings issue of Sweet Paul Magazine (available now in print and digital-download form).
Maude Marie’s cotton collar-and-bow-tie combo is made to order and attaches with easy-on, easy-off velcro strips. Bonus: It can be outfitted with a ribbon for doggies on ring-bearing duty.
This bejeweled metallic-leather crown made by Sun Goddess Collars lends a regal note to the proceedings, but stops just shy of upstaging the bride. (Go on, give a dog a throne.)
A daytime garden wedding calls for something with a little color, like this machine-washable floral-patterned shirt collar from The Rover Boutique (also available in solids and checks).
Your four-legged flower girl may not be the best at scattering petals, but a rosette-adorned cotton bandana made by Doggy Design honors her wedding-party status nonetheless.
Only the boldest party animal should attempt to pull off Rock Kandy Designs’ polka-dot tulle tutu and matching feathered headpiece.
Everything about Fresh Line’s ring bearer pillow can be customized: the fabric color, the animal silhouettes, and of course, the details of the big day.
The removable bow tie on this collar by The Rover Boutique means it works for walks down the aisle and around the neighborhood.
Make it a day no one – man or beast – will ever forget and snap up Heavenly Pet’s satin-crepe gown, adorned with organza lace flowers and plenty of ruffles.
The epitome of fur-mal wear: a handmade tuxedo complete with shirt cuffs, tails, and bow tie from Heavenly Pet.

Having your pet at your wedding just seems right. They love you so much and just want you to be happy. Seems like man's (or woman's) best friend should be there even more than some people that attend weddings! Animals are people too after all. Great article.

The tutu and the tuxedo are the most adorable things I've ever seen! What a great article! And it's true, we always say we want our loved ones at the wedding, and our dog's unconditional love means he should be there!

This is such a lovely blog! It is always super adorable to see our pooches wearing something cute. The only thing that should be mention is to ALWAYS supervise your pet while wearing any accessory so they don't hurt themselves. :)

No... just, no. Putting animals in clothes is just abuse, & "doing it with love" does NOT make it any better. Animals, even pets, have the right to be treated with dignity & respect, not made into some kind of animated fashion accessory. A bow on a collar is fine, but a tux, wedding dress or tutu? Please people, allow your dogs to be dogs, encourage them to be the best dogs they can be, but don't try to make them into little furry people... it's an insult to their dogness.
Katrina Balling from BCtwo said 6 years ago

Love these little accessories and wedding outfits...some pets are so much a part of the family that of course they would be included in the wedding festivities ...and why not. I don't have any pets right now but I love animals and would definently support an etsy shop who sells for the sometime forgotten members of our society.

April Carter from NeedlessStudio said 6 years ago
I have to agree with mazedasastoat further up. If you want to accessorize for your wedding, buy a tiara. You wouldn't dress up your invalid grandpa in a top hat and tails and make him take pictures would you? Same story here; these pets have no control of the situation. There's nothing wrong with including a pet in your wedding, but unless it's necessary to dress them up (think sweater for your Chihuahua on a frigid winter day) please just let them be their cute, drooly selves.
Janejeela J from HengRuayShop said 6 years ago
