Here at Etsy, we believe that the story behind an object is often just as fascinating as the object itself. Short Stories is our series dedicated to telling the tales behind extraordinary pieces found or created by Etsy sellers.
Here’s Bradley of Frick and Frack Scraps, the only known authority on this strange creature.
There’s been an animal sighting in Etsyland! What is it exactly? We can only guess.
Some speculate that it’s a dog, a cow, or even a strange form of wild hog. It has hair is as fuzzy as a bunny tail, but as coarse as a bear’s. Its features are full of character and depending on the light, carry an expression sometimes soft, sometimes menacing. A legend in the making, for sure.
As far as we know, the Wooly is one of a kind, although we like to dream that perhaps there are “others” out there. It is from a gritty world full of tangled scrub brush – a fibrous environment not easy to navigate but immensely pleasing for the imagination. Like any Big Foot fanatic will tell you, this Wooly is epic.
Frick and Frack Scraps has been a way for me to express myself in a way I have never been able to, breaking the restraints and shackles I have tied to my creativity. The Wooly is my attempt at using steel wool as skin. I built a substructure of aluminum wire and after tweaking the shape for a day or so, added the steel wool. I did it! But what is it and where did it come from? My wife Katherine took one look at it and said, “Whatever it is, it will make you wonder what it is!”
