As a child, I used to debate earnestly with my friends about whether Halloween or Christmas was the better holiday. Christmas had superior presents, but Halloween was somehow, undeniably, cooler. It’s an assessment I’d still stand by. There’s just something so right about a late fall holiday that’s dedicated to death, decay, and the uncanny — not to mention acting a little mischievous.
My favorite Halloween costumes and décor pieces walk the fine line that defines Halloween: between being seriously creepy, and reveling in the playful humor of grown people dressing up like something they’re not. Inspiration for your own Halloween party or costume is everywhere; just ask yourself what terrifies you the most, and then embrace it and camp it up. Or get your blood flowing by joining me for a live, interactive shopping event in Etsy’s Virtual Labs on Wednesday, October 7.
