I’m fascinated by our solar system. It’s vast, it’s beautiful, it’s mysterious. Just thinking about how much we don’t know is enough to make my heart skip a beat. I recently had my birth chart interpreted by an astrologer and let me tell you—it was spot-on. Planetary energies are no joke.

Now, I know that we might not all agree about the degree to which the solar system affects our day-to-day lives, but one thing we can all agree on? A solar eclipse is coming our way, and it’s going to be magical. Quick science lesson: A solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and the earth, blocking the sun (to varying degrees) from all of us here on Earth.

On Monday, August 21, however, this won’t be just any solar eclipse. No, no. This will be the Great American Total Solar Eclipse. Those in the path of totality will see the sun completely disappear behind the moon. They’ll experience an instantaneous shift from daylight to twilight, and watch as ribbons of light twirl and twist out from behind the moon into the sky. This is a big deal. Browsing through Etsy, I can’t help but be drawn to all the eclipse-related items (I mean, celestial things are definitely a trend right now regardless of the upcoming eclipse, but that’s beside the point). Here are some of my faves to get you excited for this momentous event.
