“Some people have a way with words…some people…not have way.” — Steve Martin
This week’s edition of News From the Craft + Style Blogosphere has anthropomorphic fungi, appetizingly messy ingredients, folded paintings, dark rooms and green architecture icon (and all-around cool dude) Lloyd Kahn.
Sweet sassy molassey! Food styling just gets better and better, doesn’t it? The glorious spreads from Ikea’s new cookbook, Homemade is Best (Hembakat är Bäst) quickly made their way around ye olde blogosphere this past month, but Marina Aurora’s elegantly messy arrangements were, in fact, done first. Take that! [Via Trendland]
I guess you could call me noir obsessed (and I won’t fight it!). Photographer Graham Akins-Hughes and his partner, stylist Jo Atkins-Hughes, have created a dark model home that begs to be lived in (cough, by me). The pottery, the light fixtures, those walls! Can you believe this is just for backdrops and photo shoots? I think I’ll become a squatter in my next life. [Via Door Sixteen]
You may be thinking that these are hastily unfolded bed linens (and creatively dyed, at that). However, they’re actually acrylic on canvas, entitled fold paintings. Isn’t the texture awe-striking? Painter Tauba Auerbach creates a three-dimensional, non-Magic Eye experience with simple paint and canvas. I’m impressed. [Via I’m Revolting]
Lloyd Kahn is an icon of the sustainabile architecture and green building movements. As found of Shelter Publications and former Shelter editor of the Whole Earth Catalog, he has brought some of the more beautiful handmade homes across the world into the public eye, as well as building geodesic domes in the ’60s, and he’s still surfing and skateboarding at age 70. Is there anything this man can’t do? Watch the video to absorb his wisdom on sustainable home building. [Via One Trip Pass]
Antique fungi illustrations are the best, especially the anthropomorphic ‘shroom. [Via AM on the Present Tense]
