by Alison Feldmann handmade and vintage goods

Every man’s memory is his private literature.Aldous Huxley

This week’s edition of News From the Craft + Style Blogosphere has sculptural knits, inspiring communal dreamscapes, a charmingly textured Swedish apartment, a semi-transparent lifesize dollhouse and recycled eyelashes as couture.

Read on!

As a longtime covetress of Elisabeth Dunker’s effortlessly charming life, as portrayed on her blog Fine Little Day, it was a pleasure to see that she had opened her home to design*sponge’s Sneak Peeks column. There’s something so homey about the mixtures of new and old crafts, textural knits and rugs, and the many sweet vignettes scattered about the apartment (and who doesn’t love that birch wallpaper?).

Sandra Backlund‘s sculptural knits have captured my fancy! The textures and weights are a dream come true to a summer loather such as myself. Sandra’s work was discovered via the always inspiring knitkicks, which aims to highlight “knitwear that pushes the creative boundaries and inspires us to pick up our knitting needles…”

At first glance, this dollhouse may seem like nothing out of the ordinary, as most dollhouses have one side removed for the easy access of eager doll arranging hands. However, Heather Benning‘s dollhouse is slightly more mysterious: in actuality, it’s a once-rotting and abandoned home in the middle of a field with one side peeled away. After the inside was brightly painted and filled with period furniture, a Plexiglass wall was installed to make the dollhouse complete (while protecting the interior). Part found object, part experiential sculpture, it’s a fascinating study. [Via Blood Milk Jewelry and Dornob]

The Maison Martin Margiela makes fantastical couture creations from the most ordinary of found objects. Materials such as curtains, plastic pen caps, elastic cords, and fake eyelashes are recycled into experimental pieces that capture the imagination. Check out the eyelash vest above!  [Via Today and Tomorrow]

Tumblr blogs are really just virtual inspiration boards. The best Tumblrs are those that take a theme and run with it, and The Nomadic Sun makes the concept of rustic communal living look quite appealing. The carefully curated photographs make me yearn for a range life, homeschooling my long haired children in a yurt. Dreams!

All of these homes are inspirational! Elizabeth Dunker's house has it dialed in: groupings of humble objects are synergistic much like Buckminster Fuller's axiom " the whole is greater than the sum of its parts". Been doing this for years; it's easy, inexpensive, fun. Love rustic, handmade abodes & just listed some new, eco vintage fabric pillows that transition from cabin to modern environments effortlessly.
