Join Etsy in Support of The American Cancer Society

May 4, 2009

by matt

Etsy is a proud sponsor of The First Annual Pink & Black Tie Gala of the Brooklyn Regional Office of the American Cancer Society. Hosted by Brooklyn’s own Stacy London of TLC’s What Not to Wear, the event promises to be a fantastic night to remember in the fight against cancer. More than 300 guests are expected to don pink and black, enjoy an elegant dinner highlighted by some classic local specialties, take part in a live auction kicked off by Brooklyn’s own Borough President Marty Markowitz, and join together to dance the night away.

Please join us:

When:
Thursday, May 7, 2009 from 6:00 pm 10:30 pm

Where: Stage 6 at Steiner Studios
15 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn, New York
Complimentary parking will be provided

Why: Your participation in the Pink & Black Tie Gala will help to ensure that the American Cancer Society can continue to provide hope, support and answers to those touched by cancer. Proceeds go directly to fund services to help local cancer patients and their families, programs for cancer prevention and early detection, as well as national life saving research.

Who: The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.

If you are in New York City, and want to support a great cause, tickets are still available. Plus, you’ll walk away with an eco-friendly tote bag, hand-printed right here at the Etsy Labs in Brooklyn. Even if you aren’t in NYC, you can still support the fight against cancer.

hats off to everyone involved and thanks to Etsy. I would also like to send out a hug to all breast cancer survivors and their families as well as those who have lost someone to breast cancer. We lost our dear sister Peggy 10 years ago and her hope was that they would some day find a cure. Benefits like this can only further the research and fight which must be fought to win the battle over this dreaded disease. Thank you Etsy and all sponsors and artists! A very very worthy cause!

Thank you Etsy. My adoptive mom's sister had breast cancer, my biological mom had cancer, and my bio-mom's sister was just diagnosed with it too. There's a decent [or indecent] chance it could also happen to me. If Utica wasn't so far away, and if I didn't have a toddler, we'd absolutely get tickets and hop on a train, I hope it goes beautifully. And the treasury with this article is beautiful, too. :]

I first became aware of this site because a friend bought me a knit cap from an Etsy shop to cover my bald little head after I lost all my hair. Then sheer boredom while going through chemo is what got me crafting again! Thanks to anyone who gets involved with this. The ACS is amazing... Just remember that not all cancer ribbons have to be pink!

I just came across the blog tonight. It touches my heart to the core for the sponsorship Esty is giving to the American Cancer Society. I am a Relayer for the American Cancer Society in Weaverville CA. My brother John passed away from squamous cell carcinoma, a rare bladder cancer on May 7, 2007. We all share the hope that we will one day live in a world where our children, and their children, will never have to hear the words “YOU HAVE CANCER.” Thank you!

Thank you ETSY for helping this cause. if you decide to create another way to support this cause, maybe asking the sellers for handmade items to be sold or in an auction to raise money, please let me know. This I think would be a easier way for some of us to help. patty
