It’s Friday the 13th!

Today is an ominous day: Friday the 13th. Whether it brings up memories of the slasher film by the same name or an increased concern for the risk of walking under ladders or stepping on cracks in the sidewalk, Friday the 13th can make the most skeptical into superstitious worry warts fearing ill will. (Did you know that the fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia? Crazy!)

Thusly, on this day of ominous signs and bad luck symbols, turn your luck around and give the 13th your own meaning. Luck is what you make of it! These items celebrate the superstitious and symbolic. Good luck….

What's way more interesting is that the Friday-13th-paranoia is essentially a (post-)industrial negativism cranked out by the media in Western Christian society. No one ever heard about Friday 13th in the 19th century and before, and 13 is actually a lucky if not holy number in a lot of cultures on this globe.

Friday 13th has already been and gone here in NZ. I heard some amusing/interesting trivia on the radio though - apparently a Dutch Insurance company carried out a study that found there were less car accidents etc on a Friday that fell the 13th day of the month than on any other Friday. Interesting!

I love this day too... I was born on Wednesday the 13th but have had several "milestone" birthdays on Friday 13th, including 13, 30 and 35 I always say 13 is my LUCKY number :)

By the way, to celebrate, I think I'll go pounce the newbies, and do some shopping!
