Make a Poison Apple Cocktail

Oct 21, 2014

by Mary Andrews handmade and vintage goods

Want to concoct an eerie elixir that’s sure to be the hit of your next Halloween party? Try this tasty drink we’ve dubbed the Poison Apple. Green in color, this cocktail is an adult-approved sweet treat—with a couple of tricks up its sleeve.

Midori, a melon-based liqueur, is what gives the Poison Apple its signature hue. When paired with apple juice, vodka and a splash of Chambord, it transforms into a delightful concoction that your ghouls—we mean guests—will be clamoring over. Choose classic martini glasses for a festive presentation; a black-sugar rim and dry ice up the spellbinding effect.

At a glance

Serves: 2
Prep time: 15 minutes

You will need:

  • 4 oz. Apple juice
  • 2 oz. Midori
  • 1 oz. Vodka
  • 2 tsp. Chambord
  • Black cocktail-rim sugar (we got ours from Dell Cove Spice Company)
  • Ice
  • Apple wedges

Step 1: Prep your glasses

Prep your glasses by running an apple wedge along the rim: the juice acts as the sticky binder for the sugar. Next, gently press and rotate the rim of the glass into the sugar until fully covered.

Step 2: Combine cocktail mixture

Combine apple juice, Midori and vodka in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Pour the mixture into the sugar-rimmed glasses.

Step 3: Style and serve

Finish the cocktail by adding a single teaspoon of Chambord to each glass. To amp up your cocktail-station decor, place small chunks of dry ice* inside a few vintage bottles and pedestal bowls of various sizes, along with a splash of room-temperature water. This will instantly add a haunting fog that creeps and climbs along surfaces and into the air. Cheers!

*Editor’s Note: Dry ice is a solid form of carbon dioxide that can be found at many grocery stores. It’s cold enough to cause injury, so always handle with protective gloves or an oven mitt. For best results,  purchase dry ice the same day you plan to use it and store it in an insulated cooler until party time.
