Handmade for Haiti: Threadbanger’s Corinne Leigh Teams Up With Planting Peace

Feb 9, 2010

by Vanessa Bertozzi

We’ve known Corinne, our friend over at Threadbanger, for some time now, but we didn’t know that before Threadbanger, she helped start a charity in Haiti about six years ago. She has joined back up with her friend and founder of Planting Peace, Aaron Jackson, to help Haiti in the wake of the earthquake.

They’ve put out this call to crafters. Specifically, they are asking you to donate handmade blankets, washcloths, and plushies for kids. If you have other ideas for useful items, contact Corinne at tips@threadbanger.com.

what a great cause. I hope they get a lot of donations. I also hope that people don't forget about Haiti. There is so much work that will need to be done for a long time.

I'm happy to see they have been in Haiti, helping for 6 years already. So many people will forget Haiti as soon as the next catastrophe strikes elsewhere in the world. But this will be a continuation of the work they are already doing so they won't forget them. The key to lifting people out of poverty is education. The old expression " Give a man a fish and you fed him for a day, but Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime" is so True.

Millions have lost everything in the quake – homes, food, jobs! For the next 12 months, the World Food Programme says 2 million people will need critical food assistance! If you want to help and learn more about the crisis response, go to: http://wfp.org/crisis/haiti> or you can text FRIENDS to 90999 to make a $5 donation.

What a wonderful way to show everyone that we can all make a contribution in our own way using our individual talents. I wrestled with myself after the Haiti disaster, knowing that I desperately wanted to help but didn't quite know how to. Thanks for the encouragement.
