This weekend’s Get the Look Decor is inspired by the casual northern Virgina home of Jeanne Jaramillo. She lives in a late ’70s split-level just outside the U.S. capital with her husband Hugh and their fifteen-year-old cat Josie. She likes to keep things fresh by adding new finds to already existing collections and loves to be bold when it comes to adding color.
What inspires you when it comes to decorating?
I think I’m inspired somewhat by trends in magazines and on blogs, but mostly try to surround myself with my favorite things — whether they are trendy or not! I’ve learned a lot from Martha Stewart over the years, like painting the insides of the bookcases with a contrasting color.
What is your favorite part about your home?
I love, love the kitchen, which we renovated a few years ago. We made an opening in the wall and added a counter which we use often.
Where are your favorite places to shop for home items?
I have to admit, I’m a big fan of the catalogue stores like PB and Ballard. Of course, I love Etsy for things like original art and vintage dinnerware. I also frequent thrift stores and antique malls both for my shop’s inventory and the house. I’ve turned my husband into an antique hunter as well!
Does your home hold any strong memories?
I can’t believe we’ve lived here for seven years already! We recently started hosting family Thanksgivings here to celebrate that great kitchen. We’ve had lots of good times in this little house!
