Greetings from the sunny coast of Xábia, Spain! We are Sara Güida and Alessio Nobili, the Italian husband-and-wife team behind Iliüi. We design and craft eco-friendly lamps and products for everyday life using upcycled materials.
Before Iliüi, I worked as a women’s shoe designer at Zara for five years. I left a year ago in search of another way of life; I spent months thinking about priorities and wondering if it was possible to combine family and work in a natural way – and if so, how? Thinking about these things led to the best project, the strongest one, the one for us.
Both Alessio and I love to explore different crafts – from photography, kung-fu and yoga to selling cakes, sewing dance costumes and exploring herbal medicine. I studied fashion design in Milan and industrial design in Rome, so starting a family design lab was really appealing to me. Ale isn’t a designer or carpenter by profession, but he always loved making things. Together, we constructed our very first lamp prototype in September 2013. We were on the island of Ibiza at a dear friend’s country house.
Since then, Ale left his job and we create products together for Iliüi full time. We do all of the design and production work in our house, which we share with our three Czechoslovakian Wolfdogs. Our goal is to explore design at 360 degrees and make useful things for everyday life. We want to create items that set trends, not just follow them.
In the future, we hope to continue designing – and hopefully increase our production – with support from the Etsy community. Follow along on our Facebook page.
