The mother-daughter relationship is universal; it is also singularly unique. Halfway across the world in Bolu, Turkey, fiber artist Sebahat Çetinkaya and her daughter, Ayşegül, push the boundaries of both craft and love, working together to create remarkable statement pieces with a crochet hook, needle, some thread, and beads. “With a needle and fiber, anything can be done,” says Sebahat — including keeping a daughter close.

What beautiful work! I love the bond you both have. It is very similar to mine and my moms. You can find us together in the living room crocheting away with each other quite often. She was the one who taught me and it's something I will always take with me.

I really love watching these two work together and their creations are absolutely amazing! So intricate and colourful! This video reminds me of the times that my own mother teaches me a particularly tough knitting stitch and how endlessly impressed I am at her wealth of knowledge about making things by hand. Thank you for sharing this video!

Such a lovely story of a mother and daughter's love and craft with one another. You make beautiful, and very delicate creations from all of your work! I've always greatly admired such fine crochet work. It reminds me a lot of my grandmother, who used to crochet tiny snowflakes each year. Thank you so much for sharing, and best of luck to both of you!

What a moving story. They are very fortunate to be working together & bonding like this. These are memories that Aysegul will have forever. You can just see the joy that her mother has spending time teaching her what she loves. These are exactly the type of honest, hard-working people that I like to support by buying handmade. Thanks for the lovely post!

I love the way mother and daughter both share a passion for the same work and work in harmony together. The mother passes on knowledge to her daughter and the daughter keeps her mother young. And the work reflects that - old techniques with modern edgy design. And each getting a little of the other. Gorgeous lively pieces - just love them!

Amazing work, amazing art! You are both stunning and what is even more magical is, that I have the same with my mom, yarn ties us together, she knits, I crochet in my free time (together over a cup of coffee) and we both work with ceramics in our "work" time :) Life is pretty sweet when these relationships become friendships...

Beautiful improvisational-type work and a lovely bond between mother and daughter. Takes me back to when my grandmother taught me crochet. My mom never did handwork; she was a musician. She broke with the tradition of quilting and crocheting my grandmother and great-grandmother followed. When I was pregnant with my first child, my grandmother awoke it in me. I like that transmission from woman to woman, very precious.

How I wish I could still sit and hand quilt with my mom, gossiping and laughing and crying together. I miss her dearly and value everything she taught me, mostly to have faith and to believe that I can do anything I put my mind and hands to.

truely beautiful; your work and your close relationship. i'm lucky enough that my own mother and i are so close too, she taught me about textiles and how to work a sewing machine and my love for it grew under her guidance, she says she finds it frustrating now to try to do the close work she used to do, (she still likes to decorate the house though!) i'm doing my best to pass on the the same passion to my children, by surrounding them with texture and colours. my daughter likes to embroider and my 4 year old son likes to 'drive' the sewing machine by putting his foot down on the pedal like a racing car!! keep up the wonderful work, many happy wishes to you both xxx

Your store has been in my favorites site since I joined Etsy several years ago. The work is as beautiful and detailed as any precious metal creation I've ever seen. I've longed for a younger neckline just to wear one of your stunning pieces! Hopefully I'll get a cuff someday that will slake my thirst for this gorgeous work. Your story is so lovely without being maudlin. It really makes me miss my mother, from whom I inherited my love of creating. All the best to you both, as you certainly deserve it.

Beautiful film, thank you both for being so supportive in my own creative endeavour with Hook and Teasel. My mum taught me how to knit and crochet soon followed, being creative has always brought my mum and me together and now in her long term condition Parkinson's this has never been more important. Thank you for the inspiration. Claire
