My name is Meagan Harrington Diaz, and I live in Tucson, Arizona, with my husband and our three little girls. I create custom wedding stationery for couples all over the world. My shop is called Tying the Knots.
Art has always been a constant in my life, but it took a few years after graduating with a degree in English to realize that drawing and painting are what I find truly fulfilling. With resounding support from my family, I started selling a handful of Irish landscape watercolor paintings on Etsy in 2012. The following year, I found myself answering many inquiries about wedding invitations. Turning my paintings into custom invitations seemed like a natural progression — I really believed they would lend themselves well to telling a couple’s story. I launched Tying the Knots in the fall of 2013.
I see each couple’s story as a unique narrative, and there is no better way to kick off the design process than to learn about how the couple met, what their proposal was like, and what passions they share. After the brainstorm, I use these personal details to create original watercolors, which I then turn into invites, maps, response cards, save the dates, and programs. I truly enjoy this process because I get to learn so much about the clients I work with and how life stood still as they fell in love.
Our daughters marvel at the thought of me painting for a living. I think, to them, to take something as enjoyable as art and call it my job is incredibly alluring. I feel very fortunate to have such a supportive family who gave me the confidence to chase this dream, even when I thought it was unattainable. I’m thankful to my crafty mom for introducing me to Etsy, and to my understanding husband for taking on many dreaded household chores while I work.
Etsy offers visibility to thousands of artists like me who have an idea, a dream or a vision. I feel right in my element here, and for that I am truly grateful. I am looking forward to working with many more couples in the years ahead from my little studio in the desert.
