We are Morgana and Gerren Lamson – a wife-and-husband creative team based in Austin, Texas. We create prints and home goods for Satchel & Sage.

Gerren and I are graphic designers by trade, but we’ve loved working on side projects together since we first met. In the beginning, our projects were a way for us to have fun and be creative together on the weekends – we would combine our styles and skills to make prints for our friends and family, or create artwork to decorate our house with. The positive feedback we received from those early experiments encouraged us to start selling our work. Little by little, our business grew into what it is today.

Our process for creating new work is loose and fluid. Together we’ll brainstorm the best way to move a raw idea into a finished product – there’s always a lot of sketching and back and forth involved. We’re inspired by experiences in nature, like hiking and camping, and digging through antique shops in small towns around Texas. The beautiful color palettes and graphics that we stumble upon in vintage paintings, books, and publications are energizing for us. Another source of inspiration is traveling abroad and experiencing different cultures.

Etsy has been a great platform for us. When we decided to take the leap and start our shop in 2010, we were surprised by how supportive the Etsy community was – we’d throw up a new product and instantly receive positive feedback for our efforts. Without this community, we might not have taken the creative risks needed to keep pushing our business forward, inch by inch.

As far as the future goes, we have plans for Satchel & Sage to grow in a few different ways. We will certainly continue producing new art prints imbued with our core elements (hand-drawn illustration, patterns, and nature themes), but we’re always exploring new product types that use different materials in an effort to diversify our home goods line and expand our wholesale offerings.
