Hi! My name is Carolina Ossa, and I sell DIY kits and finished goods in my shop, Hello Chiqui. I’m based in sunny Miami, Florida.
I went to school for fashion merchandising, and for the last six years I’ve worked in merchandising at Anthropologie and Zara. After a few years working in corporate merchandising, I felt like I wanted to express my creativity a little more. Looking for materials and beginner how-to’s was time-consuming. The craft kits available at the store were relatively affordable, but they included flimsy materials that made learning a new craft frustrating and difficult. After speaking with some of my crafty friends, I realized this was an issue we had all dealt with. I decided to take a stab at solving the problem myself.
When I launched my shop in August 2014, I offered one weaving kit that included a frame loom made from responsibly sourced pine, along with easy-to-follow, illustrated instructions. Since then, I’ve expanded my line to include supplies and macramé kits, as well as finished products for not-so-crafty individuals. I also offer simple how-to videos on my YouTube and Instagram channels, which were produced with help from my loving boyfriend.
One of my favorite parts of running Hello Chiqui is seeing posts or emails about my customers’ creations and watching them use materials from my kits in ways I could never have imagined. I want to make all of my customers feel like they could jump into a new craft at any time and be a natural.
My kits and ready-made products have traveled to places I could only dream of visiting. This wouldn’t have been possible without Etsy; Etsy helped me gain exposure and confidence in my product. I love being part of this community of makers! In the future, I hope to continue passing along tricks of the trade to new crafters, and to eventually expand my kits to other crafts, like terrarium-making, knitting, and more. Happy crafting!
