Update: The Craft Night on Monday, August 8 with Brett Bara has been postponed to Monday, August 29 due to unforeseen circumstances. On Monday, August 8, we will be hosting an Open Craft Night instead. Join us instead for an evening of unstructured making at the Etsy Labs in DUMBO, Brooklyn. RSVP here.
For the crafting activities on Monday, August 29, we’re trying something a little bit different than the usual format of Craft Night, so read carefully… We’ll kick off the evening with a with a limited-capacity sewing workshop led by Brett Bara, television host, blogger, designer, and author of the new book, Sewing in a Straight Line, followed by a Craft Night + book-signing party open to one and all.
If you can’t make it in-person, we will be hosting a live Online Lab at 3:30 p.m. on August 29 with a demo of how to sew a skirt.
Book Signing & Craft Night Party
Join Brett Bara at the Etsy Labs to celebrate her brand new book, Sewing in a Straight Line. We’ll have a fun, festive time with snacks, drinks, music, and, of course, crafting! We’ll make the stitched greeting card project from her book. Copies of Sewing in a Straight Line will be available to purchase, and Brett will have her pen at the ready to sign your copy for you too.
When is it? 7-9 p.m. on Monday, August 29 at the Etsy Labs in DUMBO, Brooklyn.
Do I need to know how to sew? Nope! This stitched greeting card project is suitable for everyone, whether you’ve never touched a sewing machine before, or consider yourself a seasoned pro. We’ll have volunteers to help you along, too.
What should I bring? All supplies will be provided. Just bring yourself and your friends. All are welcome.
Workshop: Sew a Skirt
When you see how easy it is to sew your own quick and comfy skirt with our BERNINA sewing machines, you won’t want to buy one off the rack again! Join author, television host, blogger and designer, Brett Bara at the Etsy Labs to learn how to make the One-Hour Skirt project from her brand new book, Sewing in a Straight Line (available for purchase at Craft Night). Here’s to staying cool and fashionable for the rest of this hot summer!
Do I need to know how to sew? Yes! For this $5 workshop, we are requiring that participants have basic sewing skills already under their belt. If you know the basics of operating a sewing machine, then this is the workshop for you! This is our first foray into a slightly more advanced (but still accessible) topic at Craft Night. We hope you all have fun, and feedback is welcome, as always. If you’ve never laid a finger on a sewing machine, sit tight and join us for the evening session or another sewing Craft Night (such as making bags with Bags for the People).
What should I bring? For this workshop, you’ll need to bring the following materials with you: medium-weight fabric (cotton or a cotton-linen blend or other blend is recommended): enough to cut 2 pieces that are as wide as the total circumference of your hips — in most cases this will be 2 yards and all-purpose thread to match your fabric.
Where: 55 Washington Street, Suite 712 (7th floor), Brooklyn, New York, 11201
When: Monday, August 29 from 4-6 p.m.
RSVP required here. (Note: There is currently a waiting list. If all goes well, we’ll do more workshops like this in the future!)
Webcast: For those of you who can’t make it in person, we’ll be hosting a live online demo at 3:30 p.m. ET, which will be recorded for future viewing as well.
