Adam Savage, along with his fellow movie-industry veteran Jamie Hyneman, hosts MythBusters, the Discovery Channel show that challenges urban myths in hilarious and often visceral ways. A self-described “high functioning hoarder,” Adam recently shared his love for all things Etsy in the “visual cacophony” of his home studio. This is an excerpt from his podcast, including a couple of his Etsy favorites. The full video is included at the end of this post.
Here’s what Adam had to say.
It thrills me to surf Etsy. Etsy is to me one of those communities that demonstrates that small scale manufacturing can work as a business model because you’ve got people who have viable production lines of small runs.
For example, I am holding a cane that I bought on Etsy. It has a beautiful octopus cane topper. I bought the cane and it had a resin top; I loved the look of it, but it just needed some heft. So I wrote to the guy on Etsy who made this and I said, “I love this, but I want one in metal, what can we do?” He said, “Actually, I’m making some in stainless steel. I’ll run one for you.” I bought this beautiful piece of zebra wood that I turned and put the octopus on. So now I have this object, but more than that, I was able to communicate in this lovely, gracious way with the sculptor and the maker. This octopus cane is one of my favorite things.
There are always these things I look for, like, “Oh, I wonder what someone is doing with Hellboy.” Well, one of the things that Etsy is lousy with – lousy in the sense of there’s an enormous amount of them – is knitted Hellboy caps with the horn stubs knitted into the cap. Sometimes I look for mid-century modern, sometimes I look for old British naval stuff, whatever I might be interested in at the time. The site is really well laid out and communicating with the sellers is a cinch.
[On other sites] prop collecting is often a long term exercise in disappointment, because you buy something and it comes and you’re like, “Wow, the pictures looked so much better.” But pretty much I’ve always been really ecstatic with what I’ve gotten on Etsy and the service I’ve gotten from the sellers. Like I bought a present for my wife, a really big 19-inch diameter mortar and pestle. And the Etsy maker turns out to have a friend who is traveling to San Francisco. They’re going to hand-deliver it because they happen to be driving down here for a show!
I was very seriously a sculptor in my early twenties when I moved to San Francisco in the early ’90s, and Etsy strikes me as exactly what I would have been doing back then if it had existed. I’m still not sure what the web is really great for, but among the things that give me a harbinger of what it really could do are things like Twitter and Etsy – business models that no one ever considered until these models showed up. I can’t stress it enough, Etsy is one of my favorite things in my life.
Do you have a question for Adam? He wants to hear from you! He says, “I’ve gotten so much from Etsy over the years. If anyone in the Etsy community has any questions they would like me to answer, I will do my best to answer them in the next couple weeks.”
Leave your questions in the comments, and stay tuned for a follow up interview!

As an Etsy seller, I also love how easy it is to communicate with customers! It is so rewarding to talk to a customer about what they'd like and then produce a product that is exactly what they want! :)

Awesome!! Customer communication is definitely a key component of etsy, and I'm glad its so user friendly to both buyers and sellers.

So pleased to read this and listen to the podcast! Definitely think that entrepreneurship, creating art and scientific problem solving are all things which come from the same sort of creative part of my brain, so I'm not surprised how Etsy appeals to Adam

Etsy is a great place to find uncommon and high quality art and craft pieces! The octopus cane is a good example of this.

So I got to read the article (now that my kids calmed down) ... how wonderful. It means so much to me to see you recognize Etsy artisans.... wow.... just wow It asks "Do you have any questions for Adam?" ... well other then "Can you say hi to my kids?" I can't think of one (I'm a bit verklempt lol) But if you ever want necklaces that say "I reject your reality....." I would be honored to make them custom for you. Of course my kids might faint dead away then because my daughter says she wants to "be a Mythbuster" when she grows up!

Like has been said, I love the communication between Etsy artisans. I have ordered from shops not associated with Etsy and have never felt as secure as I do here about voicing my opinion on a product, or of any concerns I might have. I ask myself why this is and I think Adam answers it well in that Etsy folks are gracious and lovely in the way they communicate. Thanks Adam and thanks Etsy.

I love that Adam highlights the interaction between Etsy shop owners and their clientele. There are a lot of places online where I could sell my art and vintage goods, but I stick with Etsy because there is a soulfulness to this community that you don't find many places. My favorite aspect of being here is the stories that I collect from my buyers. I'd like to know if Adam would ever have a shop out here, since he apparently 'gets it'.

Awesome interview. I love that you saw something on etsy, had another idea for it and contaced the seller. I'm always open to that from my customers and really enjoy being able to design things that are custom. Fantastic that the seller was already working on metal octopus. I'd like to know........do you generally come on etsy with something in mind and search, or do you browse? If you browse, do you start at the home page? I'd just like to know more about customer habits when shopping on etsy. Thanks Adam for supporting independent artisans and crafters. best regards, Pam

I've been a dabbler in mixed media assemblage art for many years and will be opening an Etsy shop this year! My question: during the Podcast there is a fascinating large white assemblage piece on the wall in your office, what is it? Thanks and happy shopping!

Otherwise I'm not sure I have any great earth shattering Myth Buster quality questions for Adam. Thanks for the support! :)

First, I admit, I'm majorly in love with Adam and etsy for putting this post together. Mythbusters (along with the now sadly defunct junkyard wars) was appointment viewing for me before DVR came along. Secondly, I'm so thrilled that he hit on one of the things that makes etsy great - the ability to connect one person, in this case the maker, with another person, in this case the customer. There are so many of us out there that relish connecting one on one with the people who are other makers and shoppers, and without etsy, I don't know that I'd every have found them. While there's a great deal of intentional community build through teams and the blog, there's a great deal of unintentional community that is built as well. I've met so many other artists by finding their shops on etsy and often I'll deliver local orders in person and get to meet my customers. It's a tremendous amount of fun!

True story-- My 6 yr old was home from school today with a fever, and she binged on Mythbusters on the workroom couch for no less than 4 hours while I packed orders and made soap. And she rewound and replayed the golden idol cattle battery electrocution segment from the ancient battery episode no less than 10 times. Lost her sh*t every time. I think you'd be hard pressed to find an Etsy seller who isn't obsessed with the show (and the obsession seems to be hereditary) so I was super pleased to see Adam's smiling face!

@Amanda that is so funny...my kids lose it every time they see the goat fainting episode. We were visiting a farm recently when pumpkin picking and I had to remind both kids before we got out of the car not to try to make the goats faint (they had a little petting zoo there) Secretly I wanted to give the goats a little "boo" but the kids were watching tee hee Hope your daughter feels better :)

Question for Adam: You speak so warmly of the value and beauty of handmade goods, and I know you have a passion for detail and innovation (thinking specifically of the story of your Maltese Falcon prop replica). The advent of new technology, such as 3D printing, has opened amazing doors for artists, crafters, and makers to use math as a creative tool alongside their hands. What do you envision the role of technology in craft will be in the future, and will this change our perception of what 'handmade' means? Thanks for the great podcast, and for being an awesome role model for future generations in both science and creative arts!

And I love the friendliness and I love selling on here. Etsy has made my current life choices possible and I so appreciate that! Adam, I'm a huge fan! In fact, I was watching Mythbusters the other day and thought, "I just want to hang out with the Mythbusters. They seem like such interesting people!" It's fantastic to find out that you're also an Etsy fan! Questions: Do you ever consider starting up sculpting again? What kind of sculptures did you like to make? If you did start up again, would you open an Etsy shop? I noticed you had some pictures hanging on your wall. Are these purchases from Etsy, as well? As a long time Etsy shopper, you may start to run into many similar types of products (like the Hellboy hats). What is it that makes something really stand out to you that encourages you to choose that seller? Do you have any suggestions for shop owners on Etsy? Any suggestions for shoppers on Etsy?

Question for Adam: Hey Adam, would you be up to using your scientific talents to create some custom tools for artisans on Etsy? I have been searching all over for someone to do some knitting tool modifications in order to create some unique knitwear. I've contacted custom metal shops before, but I'm looking for someone like you who is really passionate about the Etsy community. I have a feeling there may be other artisans that have some ideas for modifying their own tools, maybe beefing up a potters wheel or glass kiln. Say yes! You help me make the tools and I'll make something savage-worthy for you :)

I don't really have a question, just wanted to say how big a fan of Adam I am. Not just of Mythbusters (though I do love the show) but of how passionate and enthusiastic he is about everything he does, it inspires me as a geeky creative person. Keep it up Adam! Also: I really want that cane.

Adam Whats Up? This is such a cool opportunity to chat with one of my favorite Scientists/Artists! Thank You So Much for your appreciation of the amazing possibilities that being a fan/Shop Owner/Artisan of ETSY brings to all of those involved....Thankyou! Well that being said I am really a fan of the Art being related to the Science Thing. I am a science influenced Sculptural Metalsmith/Ceramicist and My whole family and I appreciate your work on your show immensely. I would love to know What Jamie also thinks of ETSY and if you have time I would love a shop comment or two! I think that you would love my Biodiversity Line of Jewelry that I am currently developing! Thankyou ETSY So Much for Having Adam as a Guest For Us to "Hang Out" With!

Your father was an artist. Is there any way artists can educate the general American public and help them value original works of fine art? It seems like a majority of people lack familiarity with painting and sculpture. I see a lot of people, artists I know and have met, who are doing original work that is affordable to the average person but people seem alienated by anything that is not tied into fan culture or mass culture. I keep running into a disconnect with trying to communicate to people the value of art and sell my work to people because they want a known commodity like manufactured goods or a collectible. Talking to Europeans and people from the UK about art is so much easier. I don't have to explain to them "This is not my hobby. This is what I do."

Excellent article Adam! My question for you good sir: When you visit shops on Etsy, is the aesthetics of a shops home page important to you as a visiter and potential buyer? Presentation can defiantly make a difference in an actual store front environment, but what about a virtual store front? Odd question I know. However, i've wondered about this many times! Thanks!

Wow! This has made my day. I asked my 7year old son if he could ask Adam a question what would it be and his reply was "I don't know but how cool would it be if they could blow up one of you bibs on mythbusters." So Adam if you are ever in need of a baby's bib to blow up, melt, or put on Buster please let me know and I would only be to happy to oblige. It would make my son's day.

I just found Etsy last August. I'm amazed at how much fun I've had with it, and how much I love it. I use it so much, my kid banned me from borrowing his iPad, so as of yesterday, I have my own! Yay! I don't know Mythbusters, yet. But Etsy has contributed so much to my life (& mostly to my wardrobe - serious vintage addiction flame being fanned by delightful Etsy breezes)., so we will now check out Mythbusters. I'm sure my 8 year old will love it. He is an Etsy fan too, and was thrilled to find Minecraft and poo stuff on Etsy - two of his favourite things. Why do we love Etsy so? There's a PhD in it for sure. I love it because it has opened the door to a massive range of vintage clothing for me, until now something completely inaccessible. That's allowed me to explore styles I've only seen in movies and thought about in books, and to be expressive in my dress in ways I haven't been able to do before. I LOVE the convos with Etsy shop keepers. A few I know I'd adore to meet, from all over the world. I love these intelligent Etsy articles too. SO MUCH FUN!

So great to hear Adam Savage loves Etsy, really raises the profile even more, which is fantastic!!! I couldn't believe it when I logged on this morning and saw this, 2 very different spheres of my life coming together, which was bit weird over morning coffee! I've not told my son yet, got to get the ear plugs in first! I have lots of questions but I guess what I'm most interested to know is when looking for gifts or new items for his home, how much does Adam shop on Etsy for unique items and is it his primary shopping site?
irini from IrinisWorld said 8 years ago
Now that was a very intelligent conversation between three proper gentlemen. I've never heard of mythbusters before but if those three sweeties are out there with that job then i can feel a whole lot better about the world. .... I understand that there are some serious myths that need busting over there in America but i would like to know if having dealt with those they might like to come over here and do a bit of busting. ...... Heck, i can point them in a dozen directions without even turning round.

I too love the communication aspect of selling on Etsy. It feels so good when you can create something special for a customer. Besides that, knowing that your item (s) contribute to the celebration of anniversaries makes me feel good. Ain't it great to know that somebody in Turkije is buying an item in the Netherlands to bring that gift with them when they visit a friend in Japan? I get exited because of those convo's :o)

I feel like I just met you one-on-one Andy!! This is proof that while packaging and shipping your items, the final presentation is so important when the buyer received your item! You just NEVER know who will see you product, whose home it will be in or who will receive it as a gift! If your SEO’s were great enough to get a buyer to your shop, your photos where intriguing enough to have them dig deeper into your item description, the purchase is bound to be next. Just imagine the delight when they (Andy) open your package! Make it count! Another myth BUSTED.. handmade ROCKS!! XOXO

Mythbusters FTW! ^_^ Made my morning to read this. For Adam: As an artist, do you ever surf Etsy for inspiration? I know I do. And if you don't (or only do so rarely) what else do you go for inspiration on-line? My personal favorites are museum websites, because a lot of them post as much of their collection on-line as they have photographed, including things that are out of rotation or have never been on display.

What an unexpected feature! The more I get involved in the Etsy community, the more I realize that art and science are not so very far apart at all, and that you can be *both* and be successful! As en engineer, I'm hoping to unleash my creativity soon, and really jump into Etsy! Question for Adam: You're obviously inspired by both Science and Art, you've becoming quite successful at science, so you think you'll ever go back to art and start to seriously sculpt again? Are your interests sinusoidal and go back and forth? Thank you for your posting!

I really liked this podcast--to the point where you gave me chills to hear you speak about the internet and the infancy of it's various uses. It was so refreshing to hear you speak from the heart about something so dear to all of us! I honestly don't know what i love more; the complete freedom of the business side or the constant surprise of the creative process. Having both feels like a gift every day. If it were 20 years ago and you were joining Etsy, what would have been your first item for sale and how much would you charge? Second part: In these 20 years, what has changed and why are you not posting that first item today?

I've wanted to write in for a long time and say how much our family loves Mythbusters. It's the only show the whole family (with a wide range in ages) can agree on. Even the 3 year old enjoys it - I love it when she 'explains' some of the science to me! My question is, what advice would you give kids interested in pursuing science and the arts? And do you think science and the arts can be combined into new fields of study and/or employment? Thanks again for a great show and the willingness to publicize other artisans!

Oh BTW, I have an idea for a myth to bust. Not sure if it has been done yet. It's the myth about being able to balance an egg on the small side during the vernal equinox. I did it in my physics class high school. My teacher said that if there was anyone that would be able to do it, it would be me lol. It took me a while, but she was right. I honestly forgot about it until recently, and just read up a little about the subject. It seems like there is no clear answer to whether it can be done on other days or if it's really true. Maybe you guys can figure it out :)

Howdy! It was a treat to read about your Etsy experiences and realize that we have something (besides the love of Mythbusters) in common. At first glance a person might not notice that the Etsy and Mythbusters have an appeal to similar spirits. For example, I consider myself a geek of learning, discovery, science, and humor. Mythbusters combines all of that and it happens that Etsy does too. I found the Geekery shopping category of Etsy and have been straining my husband's last nerve with all the quips, giggles, and doodads I find irresistible ever since! He is now a proud owner of the "Talk Nerdy to Me" mug by Periodically Inspired--and loves it! I am thinking about getting the pie plate with the pi symbol etched into the bottom for him too--he makes a mean apple pie! For my questions, I wonder: How did you discover Etsy? What made you come back for more? and When did you realize you were hooked? Also, do you have a favorite category? If you could make it better still, what would you do? Are there any other community shopping models you like? Lately, I have been on a "Serenity" kick. I sure wish that series wasn't cancelled. Maybe you can help me get another "fix"....Have you ever thought about busting any Firefly myths? There are a lot of space cowboy adventures I am certain would make for a great show. For example, did Jayne's gun, Vera, really need a space suit (for oxygen) to fire; it so then how did Vera operate for the second shot (after the hole in the suit was made with the first)? My husband and I send our best to you and yours. Oh, and thanks for Mythbusters. You an Jamie are the rock!

Also have you bought anything on Etsy that you would use on Mythbusters to explain a myth? Inquiring minds what to know! Have a fabulous day and look forward to your answers soon! Kristin :)

Hey Adam, love the show. Cool to see you on Etsy! A quick, but very serious question : Will you ever blow up something from Etsy on one of your shows? Well, you know, Etsy sellers' stuff is so cool that it's bound to have higher explosive qualities than anything else. That's irrefutable science! haha!

It is soooo awesome that Adam loves Etsy. My whole family are huge fans, my daughter has known the name Mythbusters since she was 2 and called you guys the Mizboosters. When we lived in the Bay area we used to try and find out where the Mythbusters warehouse was! It's great to have a show on TV that is interesting, funny and intelligent! Our question is: How in the world did you and Jamie get together and decide to start such a cool show and who's idea was it? We hope you guys can go on blowing things up for another 20 years! Thank you so much for supporting the home-based business market! Holly, Corey and Ivy

I love this! Adam is one of my heroes. I too am an industrial designer and prop designer and I have big dreams of someday doing special effects or prop design for films. I used to work in a prop shop at my university as a student. Right now, I sell handmade books on Etsy. I wondered if Adam could suggest a way to get into the line of work he does by showing craftsmanship through an Etsy shop. Or if Mythbusters is hiring any backstage crew/techies? :)

Mary from FrayedFuzzies said 8 years ago
Having been part of production teams where we have found great things for props and costume pieces for theatrical productions, I completely agree that Etsy is a treasure-trove for props hunters! Thank you for your support! On a side note.....I think you guys should revisit the "driving in heels" myth. Now I am sure the result will be similar, however, there is an art to walking/driving in heels that those who wear them on a regular basis have mastered. Having dressed many actors in drag, and seeing them walk for the first few days in their heels like you and Jamie did in that episode; there is no way you can drive in heels if you can barely walk in them! Try running it again with some ladies in heels....or queens :)

Adam , you have a lot of comments and I am not surprised at all! Myth busters has been a family favorite show to watch as a family since my kids were young ( they are both in college and we still have marathon myth buster sessions when they are home - we love science AND comedy AND seeing things blow up! You guys hit the trifecta with that show :) But I may even be more thrilled that you love Etsy as you do? I read how you love the communication aspect with the seller that Etsy so easily provides. It is one of my favorite things about Etsy as well. My buyers are sometimes amazed that I get back to them within minutes of a question - but customer relations is one of my favorite parts of owning my shop. My question: what are the hallmarks of great customer service ( on Etsy specifically) to you? Maybe some examples of what sellers have done best in your experience vs what others have done to disappoint or dissuade you from purchasing their product. Thanks! Cindy ( a long-time fan)

Hey Adam! Good to see you're on Etsy too. A few questions (I'll try to keep them relatively short): 1) What drew you to Etsy in the first place? 2) Have you ever considered setting up a shop for some of the stuff you've made over your time in Mythbusters that's just cluttering up space (if such stuff even exists)? 3) Do you believe there is a myth (or more than one) that cannot be tested with methods currently available (or available in the foreseeable future)? If so, which one(s)? 4) Do you have any advice for crafters and creators trying to perfect their trade beyond the usual urging to practice? 5) (This is the personal fangirl question, so if you choose not to answer I understand) Do you game at all? If so, which games do you like the most? Thanks again for being such an awesome individual and perpetuating the love of science and discovery (and fine hand-crafted items!) through your life and work.

Hi Adam, I am an etsy seller from Canada. I want to say thank you from up north for my science and technology driven husband Jason and our two daughters. Katie is turning 6 next month and Emma is 9. We all love your show but the girls are especially fond of "Duct Tape Island" I think we must have watched that episode at least thirty times. My eldest daughter is into science big time and she loves that you make science cool. Emma sometimes is given a hard time by kids for being into science and math and I think she is grateful to know that there is definitely a place for her curiosity in this wonderful world. A BIG thank you to Kari too for being beautiful, artistic, funny and smart! Katie loves it when things explode (well, who doesn't?). Okay here's a question. A mythbusters for kids may be a lot to ask but what about an episode fueled by youngsters? Questions from kids or surrounding kids. I know our kids would love it!

My husband and I love to watch Mythbusters and I was so surprised to see you on Etsy, Adam. When I told my husband I was writing to you, WOW, did his eyes POP. Have you ever heard of sea glass? I'd love to see you do a Mythbusters on genuine sea glass as opposed to artificial??? Some people think artificial (tumbled in a machine) sea glass is just as nice as genuine sea glass, while others like to see the historical value and the patina that is on genuine sea glass which is naturally tumbled by the sea. Any thoughts on this Adam?

Down right awesome to know you are an Etsy fan and shopper Adam! I'm a big fan of Mythbusters! Your show is so entertaining for all ages. Bravo for fostering creative thinking, inspiring a love of science and innovative problem solving in such a fun format. Duck tape rules! I'm not surprised to learn you are also an accomplished artist/sculptor. Here's my question....Are there any myths about vintage? ie: Do the techniques used to verify the material or age of an item really work(the use of 409 to test Bakelite comes to mind)? I'd love to see the Mythbusters explore the myth / adage 'They don't make 'em like they used to.' Does that antique butter churn make better tasting butter than the current manufacturing process? An old versus new Mythbusters! :>) Keep up the great work.

What unusual items are we *not* making? * If you find two similar items, how do you decide which one to buy? What's the deciding factor--price, photos, length of time shop's been in business, other? Also, it would be fun to have a post where you share gift ideas for your Mythbusters coworkers. Thanks!

Hey Adam, do you prefer to drink from a glass or mug?
Alison from eyespotdesigns said 8 years ago
Hi from a big fan in Ontario! Adam, thanks so much for this great interview and sharing some of your favourite things about Etsy and favourite items you've found. Do you think the other Mythbusters would also be willing to browse Etsy and talk about some of their favourite finds? Alison

My husband, boys, and I love watching Mythbusters. We think your job must be a blast (no pun intended!). So cool that you like Etsy, Adam!

Wow!!! What a wonderful opportunity for Etsy and Etsy designers / sellers.
Belinda Euans from BeInkedDesigns said 8 years ago
My question to Adam is: How did you discover Etsy and what was the first thing you bought and why? Sorry, that was three in one.
Belinda Euans from BeInkedDesigns said 8 years ago
Oh...Oh...Oh..I have a great question! Since Myth Buster's is doing a series of Zombie episodes, how about proving if it is possible for a ZOMBIE to bite through a human skull?

So great to see so much love from all types of people for Etsy and our community! Starting a shop is difficult but it's worth it when you read blogs like this. The appreciation for us and all of the Etsy stores/sellers is something that does not go unnoticed. Thanks Adam! My question for you is; What is a deal breaker for you when it comes to items on Etsy? Is there any reason you might turn away from a certain product and decide to go with a similar product from a different shop instead?

I just wonder what your favorite myth was to bust, or not, as the case may be. We loved the MacGyver special :)
Rosalyn Martz from rosalynvintage said 8 years ago
How cool is that! I like watching mythbuster and is always amazed of the dedication you and your team does in busting myths... This is an inspiring interview and great to know you are an Etsy-er too :) I love that episode where you and Jamie showed the best way to prevent virus from spreading when you sneeze. Great visuals :) Oh and also, the James Bond's Tuxedo Suit episode :) You guys are just amazing! My question is, how much percent of mythbusting is for fun and how much percent is for educating the people and how much percent is hardwork? Thank you :)

Fantastic!! Can't say 'nothing on TV when Mythbusters (and Adam) are ON!' lol Octopi are creatures I used to sculpt for vessels and this article reminded me to change my focus a little bit back to 'marine based' things. Question to Adam: Are there any specific myths that you would like to solve that you feel are solvable? If so, what is one of them? (sorry, those are two questions) Thanks, Tina from Tofino, Vancouver Island

I am so utterly excited that one of my favorite people to watch has been impacted so positively by the community that's made such a difference in my own life! I'm also very inspired by that octopus cane, sir, and now I want something similar (as I occasionally rely on a cane.) Recently, I saw a Kat Von D home tour video, focusing on all of her favorite handmade possessions, which were mainly etsy purchases, and now this! Etsy should quote Adam on the home page, or create a testimonials page. Question to Adam: You said you were a serious sculptor at one time, and that you could see yourself having been a part of etsy if it had existed at the time. What would have been your shop name, and what type of sculpture would you have sold?

I am a huge fan! And that is saying alot since I only watch about 3 hours of shows a week. I know I am only one small pea in the big pot of etsy soup but knowing how Adam feels about etsy makes me feel so good. Thank you! I feel the same way. I spend hours each week convoing with customers to figure out exactly what they are looking for in colors and such, so that I can do my part to make there big day perfect.

Thank you Adam for such encouraging words. I'm new to etsy as a seller, not a buyer. I'm still trying to figure out the "magic" tags for what I sell. You seem to be an eclectic shopper. If your not looking for something specific, what is your criteria for searching?

We so enjoy watching Adam and crew on Myth Busters. With Etsy being so diverse, it's neat to see what others find interesting on Etsy, which leads me to find even more cool stuff! Adam is right, Etsy has such an awesome community of entrepreneurs and creative minds who not only come to buy and sell, but who actively share in support, leadership, and encouragement of one another... It's definitely an excellent place for the entrepreneur and those who support that spirit. And seriously, what a fantastic place to shop! I LOVE Etsy, and my Etsy family. It is so nice as an artist to be appreciated by so many people and to be recognized. I am always telling people about my shop on Etsy and explaining to them that by purchasing off Etsy is the same as supporting a mom and pop business because that is what we all are. I love that I can create the PERFECT gift for someone special, the only down side is not getting to see their happy faces when they open it! Thank you Adam and all out there like you for giving us here on Etsy the credit we all deserve. It isn't always easy being so creative on a daily basis, so reading your article was inspirational :)

Adam, thank you for your kind words. I guess that, in a way, we antiques' and vintage sellers are busting myths too~~~those that try to convincel us that old , broken antiques are useless. A rusty, old broken gate may not operate as intended, but it could be transfixed into something exciting: a fireplace screen, a piece of wall art, or perhaps a garden stake for vines. . We are always reinventing, reusing, and loving what's left of it. Marci of Serenities

Hi Adam! I love Mythbusters! You lucky folks get to blow things up for a living. In some ways, I am just as lucky, because I get to create things. My question is totally un-Etsy related, but here it is: Do those flimsy paper toilet-seat covers actually protect us from anything? Is there a way you could test it on Mythbusters? I know it doesn't involve explosives, but I am so terribly curious!

As the last one to comment (so far, haha), I feeI must employ a shameless product plug. You may know, Amethyst is the birthstone of February; the very word 'amethyst' means 'not intoxicated'. If this is an issue for you, then you can either trust in the Greeks and drink wine from goblets made from pure amethyst crystal (how incredible would that be) AND hope that it keeps you from getting too intoxicated (but more likely, everyone else in the room will be enlightened) ... OR you can buy one of my wine stoppers and I will guarantee it will keep you from being intoxicated (if used properly). Now whether or not my stoppers work on the intoxicating waters of Aquarius is a matter of debate ... and that sounds more like a job for the Myth Buster team. Cheers!

Soon, perhaps in one month, I will do a portrait of straw Mythbusters and will set in my store. Maybe I'll give Adam Savage, if he likes it. It will be a unique portrait Mythbusters :)
