Short Stories: Auburn Tractor handmade and vintage goods

Here at Etsy, we believe that the story behind an object is often just as fascinating as the object itself. Short Stories is our series dedicated to telling the tales behind extraordinary pieces found or created by Etsy sellers.

Check out this creative listing from PoorLittleRobin for a toy tractor in not-quite mint condition:

Brisk weather…a harvest moon. A group of friends visits the local corn maze. Two young lovers sneak away from the others to share some time alone. Lying among the stalks, they barely notice the rhythmic chugging of a tractor and the crunching of dry leaves under heavy tires. With no ears to hear their screams, the HEADLESS FARMER scratches two more notches into his steering wheel.

Here’s the seller, Melissa, on how the headless farmer came to be:

Sometimes we get more joy out of describing an item than we do selling it. While listing this tractor, we were discussing how nearly every Auburn tractor you see is missing the farmer’s head. This led to a joking comparison to a modern Headless Horseman, and an idea was born. Our son, a journalism major and creative writer, took this scenario and developed a very graphic story in very few words. We nearly died laughing. Selling the green tractor will not be nearly as much fun as coming up with the story!
