Introducing Etsy Weddings

Etsy.com handmade and vintage goods

TeenAngster

You may have noticed that we’re pretty into weddings around these parts. From DIY receptions to clever decor how-to’s, we never tire of antique jewelry, dogs in bow ties, and the many other personal and meaningful elements that make a wedding day great.

However, we thought that wedding-centric posts would be most pleasantly consumed in an experience that truly puts the couple first. Introducing Etsy Weddings, a marriage (pun intended!) of curated items, trends, how-to’s, expert advice and the stories of real couples — all in one place. We’ve decided to create a singular Etsy destination to help inspire and guide shoppers throughout the different stages of their wedding planning. From real wedding inspiration to curated collections of handmade and vintage heirlooms, Etsy turns each unique vision into a reality.

In addition to providing a shopping experience around wedding events, we’re introducing the much requested Wedding Registry. (Very exciting for this bride-to-be!) With gift ideas ranging from personalized decor to vintage kitchen items, the registry makes it easy for couples to choose gifts that match their distinct taste and lifestyle.

One more detail: all of your favorite nuptial-themed posts will now be published on Etsy Weddings, so be sure to visit often to catch up on the latest wedding inspiration and style ideas. To learn more about the many facets of Etsy Weddings, check out this Etsy News post.

Now what are you waiting for? Catch the bouquet over at Etsy Weddings!

I am dumbfounded. Really I am. And I am kind of hurt.

    Deborah Pasarow from DuettaDesigns says:

KisforCalligraphy and IttyBittyWedding have hit the nail on the head. The recreation of the Wedding catagory on Etsy is terrible for the sellers of wedding items here. Relevancy is no longer important in the world of weddings. There is no searchability under "Weddings", other than very basic categories. As an example if you were looking for Pearl Earrings you have to look through all the other earrings in the Wedding/Jewelry/Earrings section. Thank goodness a buyer can still search on the tool bar at the top without HAVING to go through "Weddings" as a catagory. That is if the bride to be takes the time to do that and notices that box.

This change sucked my enthusiasm right out of me.. I, 100% completely, agree with IttyBittyWedding and Kisfor Calligraphy. It's hurting the sellers and without sellers of handmade wedding items there would be no market on etsy for it. I do understand how this might work for etsy and even some shoppers but as for sellers, we are getting the raw end of the great new change. If any other sellers have any ideas or want to form a group and collaborate on how we can improve and expand our ideas, venues, please, feel free to contact me. I'd love to hear from you. xoxo, Deb

OK, all you very excited people... STOP AND THINK. Somehow this benefits Etsy, you better believe, but it sure isn't going to benefit sellers. I have had views of my wedding items daily and now, they suddenly stop, and my items become invisible to buyers. Why is Etsy playing favorites with its sellers? Don't they realize that we can pack up and go, and there go their renewal fees? Sellers, please read and pay attention to what the handful of other Etsy sellers who are thinking deeply into this are saying here—this change does not benefit sellers of wedding items. Is Etsy willing to explain how we, the sellers, benefit? There's a lot of vague smoke and mirrors about this change being terrific, but it's a raw deal. Why renew an item now when no one will be able to find it? Please re-read these posts from above: "Ok, it looks great and I love the new pinterest style look however right now I'm quite upset. I sell tiaras, hair vines, hair pins and hair combs under wedding, hair. I have scrolled through every single page and none of my items are appearing. Why have I spent money adding my items to your site if you are not going to show them under this section." "Great idea! Except...... I had 99 favorites yesterday on my shop. This IS going to be awesome for a select few shops as far as I can see. If you page forward on a category under Weddings section, after several pages it says "there are no more items to display". WHAT??? There should at least be an option to do further search instead of sounding as thought that's all there is. OH BROTHER! Come on Etsy HELP us don't hinder us. We give you a good chunk of our sales I guess you don't want that anymore??? I'm very confused.

I have paid Etsy over $2500 in fees alone this year. I am a viable part of your business base yet when I look for my items on this site not one shows up. My items are all tagged correctly. Yet you put "no more items fit this description" on your store front. I know I have over 56 items that fit that description that were not shown. You need to make a clear cut difference between your curated site and the Etsy storefront. If the bride can not find what she needs under your umbrella be sure to point her to the rest of us. I pay my fees just like everyone else. Don't stab me in the back.

  • IttyBittyWoodShoppe

Mike and Kathy from IttyBittyWoodShoppe says:

It's been a rough day. Started out good, painting at my table renewing my listings till I checked to see where I was listing in the topper category. To my surprise the page had changed. Everything has changed. A little over a year ago I "retired" because of the economy, my wife got me started in Etsy with cake toppers. I had grown my little business to point that I turned my "old business" over to my partner. So I have been painting wedding toppers for the past year building my sales to over 1100+ in 12 months. I have loved meeting our "brides" and becoming their friends but everything has changed. Even though I do have one listing on page two, where are my other 115 items. My back ground is retail and I know from experience that you can not build your business with one item or like most of my fellow sellers NONE. The problem is Etsy has forgotten who they are. They somehow have gotten the idea that they are the sellers. Etsy's one and only job is to facilitate a transaction between two people. They now think they can control the market place. To pick winners and losers. This year I would have paid about $7,500.00 in fees to Etsy, now it looks like I will pay about $3,000.00. I understand you have to have some type of control or we would become Ebay but that is were it should stop. Today should have been a very busy day with a lot of convos and favoriting.....Not Much. Etsy's profits are made off the backs of their sellers not the customers. It is our job to drive our customer base by supplying a good product at a fair price. No sellers, no customers.....no Etsy. This they have forgotten or have never really understood. What I have seen from watching from afar over the last year and interacting with them a few times. I don't think they know who pays their salaries. It's the sellers. If we all left tomorrow there be a for rent sign on their doors by end of week, unless the office staff can paint, sew or make fudge. Over the years we have all seen companies make the wrong business choices ( New Coke), the test of a company is to admit they made a mistake, correct the mistake and ask for forgiveness. Is Etsy this company?

  • CartaDolce

    Kirsten Hadley from PomLoveAnnex says:

I am extremely upset and have huge concerns about the new set up of the weddings category (if it can be called that). when i renew an item, i am paying for that item to be seen in the category that i listed it under. i have clicked thru every single page of the new weddings category and i can't find any of my items - anywhere.... as a result, i can only say that i am now apparently paying for a non-service. it also renders search ads pointless. the bulk of my orders come from people searching thru the weddings category - so since i am no longer showing up in said category, i can only predict that i will no longer receive the amount of orders that usually come in for both of my etsy shops (both in the weddings category) - forcing me to either get my own website or just find another way to support myself and my family entirely. looking thru the limited and slow-loading pages - i found doubles - even triples of the same items and the same shops (but still, none of my listings). can you explain this? i have painstakingly changed my tag words for the relevancy change, so i know that is not the issue. etsy, you've taken something really great and turned it upside down - excluding thousands of amazing items in the process. the last thing that brides want is for their choices to be limited - and that's exactly what you've done. i have emailed several people about this and after looking at the change, they all say the same thing - this is just stupid. it may look prettier, but it doesn't help anyone. it doesn't help the people who are searching for items, it doesn't help sellers earn their living fairly and it certainly won't help you in the long-run. the bottom line is that i don't want to pay for something (renew listings) if i'm not going to get something in return from you (be seen in the proper category). it can't be put any plainer than that. that being said - why not keep the curated wedding category as an option for buyers, just like the other categories on the front page under the Discover tab? that would make you and us happy - and no one would lose out on sales/income.

  • esdesigns

    Elizabeth Scott from esdesigns says:

It's great that you're working on the category pages, and I love the registry idea, but I am a little concerned about the lack of a search within the category. Search is always the top traffic source, so combining it with browsing is important! What about narrowing it down to search by style cateIgory? I thought that was what this was, but then I looked in woodland rings and none of my rings made it to that category. They're a large part of my shop, and I tag them correctly. Is this curated? It seems like it couldn't be curated, because multiple items from the same shops show up right next to each other, and there are plenty of non-wedding items, non-woodland tagged items, and lots of earrings, pottery, etc. Maybe I'm not tagging correctly? Or is there some technical problem?

Maybe you should keep the idea of the registry but scrap the idea of the wedding section. Seems that people would love to be able to save the things they want to a registry but you need to let them search all of the available options. At first I was happy about the registry idea, but now I am worried you might create baby registries and my mobile shop will disappear like many of the wedding vendors. I hope etsy is able to find a solution.

My family tree is often used as a wedding gift or bridal shower gift. It falls into the category of paper goods, however, I'm not sure that is the best category for it since that is where all the wedding prep items are located with no gift category. In the shop paper goods page it looks like there is room for a couple more categories. I think Shop Wedding Paper Goods "Gifts" or "Gifts and Miscellaneous" or something like that would fit well there for my item and for many sellers who have other wedding paper items.

Nothing helped, and my stats are way down. I thought I must be doing something wrong. Now I know I'm not the only one having this problem. It's very depressing. Although the concept of a wedding registry is long overdue, what have you done to the Etsy sellers who actually sell wedding items? Moved them to the basement? The new 'weddings' section is a total disservice to those who are selling wedding items. There isn't any easy way to look at the categories and the pages are taking longer and longer to load. I am extremely disappointed in this new wedding section. At first I thought it was a great look but then browsed around to my dismay to see such limiting selections!!!!! A new buyer to etsy won't even know many of the other items that are being excluded unless they do a search. I do not see many options in the categories. I've browsed around the former wedding category look and found many wonderful sellers with great items, that I would not have seen with this new feature. They've all disappeared~! I also sell wedding bouquets as do many others and I'm alarmed that my shop views have come to a standstill! 90% of my revenue results in wedding sales and this have severely diminished business not only for me but for hundreds of other sellers in the same category. To only select a few shop that are featured over and over again is favoritism! I've never spoken out loud at issues I have seen in the forums but I must speak out now! Etsy you must address this issue, either reverting back to the old category look or having more selections and more options for different items that don't necessarily fit in what I like to call, the "anthropology look" I think this new look is all flash but no substance! If anyone agrees with me, post your thoughts here!

WOW, this explains why my item views dropped this week. My shops get a ton of views, and items get favored by buyers through out the day. I do pay the extra money to SHOP ADS, and that would give me the advantage to get my items show up in the search. But none of that is working on the registry - weddings section. I went though pages of pages of sections to see if any of my items would come up but nothing. I do see 2 views on my traffic report today on my shop stat and that is extremely low. I wish there was an article to sellers about how to enhance our views based on the new design, all it says it don't have to do anything, business as usual. But it is not, my business is not as usual.

I'm currently planning my wedding and having been using Etsy for inspiration and have purchased a lot of wedding items from Etsy. I'm not a seller, but a dedicated Etsy shopper and I am HATING the new Etsy Weddings. The format is lovely, clean, and easy to use, so on the surface it looks great. However, when I could once find hundreds of pages of items, I can suddenly only search through maybe three pages (or three clicks of the "Show More Items" button). How is that possible?! And frankly, a lot of the items that are being showcased are crap. I am not seeing any of the unique, creative, and beautiful work that I come to Etsy to find. Instead, I see nothing but the same stereotypical wedding BS that I can find on the Knot. I appreciate the new format, but Etsy, please take a second look at the actual content.

Bad timing! This is not the right time of the year for experiments on wedding items, many shops are losing views and sales during the most active weeks/months. The registry is a good idea, why not integrate it in the general site? A button with "add to registry" would be more useful, and everyone could make a registry for any occasion, not only weddings. Would be more useful for sellers and buyers. I'm sure improvements will take place very soon, fingers crossed!

  • PeacockPrinting

    Erica Guilfoyle from PeacockPrinting says:

Seriously Etsy?? There is a BACK TO THE EIGHTIES invitation and a ceramic plate in the Paper Goods section. And the same invitations are featured more than once in some cases. Not a wide selection - someone said it earlier in this thread that it looks more like an inspiration board or a place for ideas than for somewhere to go to actually look at items you want to buy. An "add to registry" button is a super idea, by the way. Something that doesn't actually DETRACT from sellers views and sales, but might actually help ADD to it! I looked back at my stats over the past 12 months, and almost 20% of that came from category searches. 20%!!!!! Now that I'm not showing up in the categories anymore, it stands to reason that I will lose 20% of my annual sales. You also claim that you're looking for interesting descriptions, great photos, and appropriate tagging. I don't want to throw anyone under the bus, but there are a lot of invitation listings that are digital images, not even photos of printed items. Come on now. How are those great photos?? Not to mention that now it's less useful to renew, and create shop ads so you're cutting back on your own revenue. PLEASE oh PLEASE put it back for the sake of those of us who are trying to get to the point where we can quit our day jobs and happily create beautiful items for our brides! WE ARE BEGGING YOU!!

  • thecrystalrose

    Rose LaChapelle from TheCrystalRose says:

The change in the Wedding section is a debacle. I've spent hours - no days - working on the tags and titles in my store per the articles Etsy support recommended. I have noticed that my "views" on some items have increased, however that's not turning into sales. I haven't had an order since Thursday and I didn't have any inquiry convo's over the weekend. For the first 4 months of the year I averaged 27 orders and $4,750 of revenue per month. So far this month I have 3 orders and $460 of revenue - if this continues at the same rate my sales and revenue will be much less than one half the monthly average for the rest of the year. I had $9,000 in revenue last month. Where are the buyers? i've never posted to these blogs until now - but as I said in a previous post - this is not just poor business practice on Etsy's part - it borders on negligence. Why didn't vendors have some notice about these changes? We are the ones taking a risk with our own money and time to build a business. You've pulled the rug out from under us! Many of the items that are shown in the jewelry section are marginal at best. Some aren't wedding related, some aren't handmade. Buying cheap manufactured components from China and gluing a hair clip or an earring post on them doesn't make handmade items. Some of the items are from jewelry wholesalers. Who is picking this stuff? Why do I keep seeing the same items over and over again - And by the way - a "ring holder" is not jewelry, a $4 pair of plastic flower earrings is not bridal jewelry. If I were a new Etsy customer I wouldn't be at all impressed by what I see on these pages and probably wouldn't come back. Maybe this new format is driving buyers away or confusing them.

I hope at this point they don't start a new category for babies or fashion. I don't want someone from etsy choosing what buyers get to see. We don't really have time to get involved with the "Etsy" community and don't want that to hinder us in being able to sell. I have been a little concerned about that already. Hope etsy listens to the sellers and realize this is not a game or an experiment for us.
