Amidst the crisp smell of fall air and the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot, the days grow shorter and the magic of Halloween starts to creep up on me. What is it about Halloween that captivates the imagination so completely? Perhaps it’s whispers of the unknown, thoughts of old pillow cases spilling over with sweet treats, or the promise of scary movies dominating mainstream television in the days leading up to All Hallow’s Eve. Lately I’ve been daydreaming about hosting a totally spooky Halloween party – one that channels the eeriness of the season, leaving guests in awe and wonder over the mystery of things we can’t quite explain.
This Halloween season, I’m all about drawing on the spooky chill of crows and old owls for a little party inspiration. There’s something so ominous about gatherings of birds. It’s sure to set the perfect chilling tone for your shindig.
Send guests handwritten notes on cards with a slightly timeworn vibe. Keep things simple with a color palette of black, white, and kraft.
Old glass apothecary bottles, vintage champagne coupes, and loads of flickering candles inside mercury glass holders conjure images of witch’s brew, while providing a sparkling ambiance, too.
Add an air of haunted mansion to any space by dimming the lights and loading up on a few ornate decorative pieces. Glossy black frames, black candles in wall sconces, doilies reminiscent of spiderwebs and spooky antique photographs will do the trick!
Black lace is the perfect accent to add a dark, Victorian vibe to a Halloween celebration. Use it to adorn candles or to line serving trays. Ditch the big box costume in lieu of a black lace dress paired with a mysterious black lace mask or the perfect little black lace gloves.
