It’s something about the childhood memories of heading back to school come September that always make me look at fall as a time to refresh and start anew. I’m a firm believer in developing a timeless backdrop that’ll last you through the years and switching things up with thoughtful accessories, whether it be in your home or in your closet. A fun new piece of artwork, a statement necklace, or maybe a great pair of kicks can go on a long way to giving a new look to your long-time classics. As the saying goes, “the devil is in the details.”

The kitchen is the perfect place to get creative with accessories and stock up on fun pieces to use for entertaining. An antique espresso maker, carved wooden scoops, embroidered linen towels — they all speak to the past but can be unique and modern when set against a clean white backdrop. I love pieces that are curated over time and can tell a great story.

Accessories are always a great opportunity to bring a bit of the outdoors in. Natural materials are my favorite way to add a dose of freshness to a space, whether it be a ceramic bowl, a rustic foot stool, a beaded plant hanger or a framed bird feather — little details can go a long way.

I love simple jewelry that makes big a statement, whether it be the material it’s made of or its unique shape. Architectural angles, rare stones, a bracelet made of rope — worn atop an all-black ensemble, these pieces can really pop.

Two things you can guarantee will never go out of style: black and leather. A great backpack can last you a lifetime and these oxfords are pretty sharp too. I always make sure to have my business cards and a pen on hand — you never know when a great opportunity may present itself!
