Erin_bio.jpgWriter Erin Loechner launched award-winning Design For Mankind in 2007 as a catalog for the overflowing inspiration found while researching design day and night. Those of you who frequent Design for Mankind are well aware of my crazy renovation plans to transform a Midwestern ranch into a Scandinavian-inspired cabin hideaway. I’m going for a sort of Swedish feel with a side of industrial chic that I like to call “rustic modern.” In other words? Lots of organic, raw materials: wood, metal, glass and porcelain.

Naturally, I’m looking to Etsy sellers to help create the home of my dreams. Ready to see my picks?

I’d love to mix a few porcelain/ceramic tiles together in a fun formation on my walls; the above Set of Microtiles by elementclaystudio and Grace Porcelain Wall Sculptures by princedesignuk are right up my alley. To keep the space from feeling too cold, I’d add texture and pattern with a Peshtemal Towel by turkishbath and The Simplicity Tea Towel by inklore. Of course, artwork is a must, and I’m loving Log No. 7, an original watercolor painting by gollybard.

For my fix of metal in the space, I’d choose the Early Metal Lunchbox (for office storage) from hindsvik and a few Vintage Aluminum Medical Clipboards (to hang artwork and to do lists) from sushipotparts. For my dose of glass? These Brass Lidded Glass Jars from thevintagecabin and a Jar Light by tbdsf will do the trick. Of course, I’d throw in a pattern/texture with a genius Vintage Tea Towel Lunch Bag by countrylifenaturals and a ceramic piece (in a paperweight, nonetheless!) with a pair of sweet Ceramic Dogs by lucindachips.

We need more rustic charm, yes? This is a cabin, after all. Let’s throw in a Bubble Chandelier by jeanpelle and a Limited Edition Print from groundwork. Of course, this Custom Branch and Twig Chandelier by jessedirk will make our entryway glow and a Vintage Collection of Industrial Lab Funnels from ethanollie will look lovely on our bookshelves.

Thanks to Erin for sharing her “rustic modern” Etsy picks!
