Guest Curator: A Vintage Picnic With Please Sir handmade and vintage goods

Diana_bio.jpgDiana Martini is the creator and author of Please Sir, a daily site devoted to passions like modern and vintage design, eclectic photography and inspiring art. Born in New York, Diana now lives in North Carolina and works as a textile designer. She spends her free time discovering new inspiration, learning photography and cruising flea markets for the next vintage find.
Though I’m a textile designer by day, my true passion, as those of you who frequent Please Sir may know, lies within all things vintage. I fell in love with vintage by watching my mom’s no-nonsense bargaining skills at local yard sales, and she helped me recognize the inspiration and nostalgia that vintage can bring into my life and home. Today, when I can’t hit the weekend garage sales, my favorite spot for vintage is Etsy, because you can always find one-of-a-kind vintage pieces at reasonable prices. Besides scouring flea markets, one of my goals this summer is to enjoy the beautiful weather and relax. What better way to do so then with a vintage picnic? Invite your friends, pack delicious food, find a grassy patch or backyard picnic table and shop the items below to throw your very own vintage picnic!

Dress the part in an ultra-cute picnic outfit complete with a 50’s Dirndl Skirt from thegreedyseagull, white lattice peeptoe heels from DearGoldenVintage and a charming wicker picnic purse available from fabgabs. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

For a classic picnic, pack food and goodies in a Redmon picnic basket from RedHenStudios or, for a more convenient solution, bring the orange picnic set from KitschDesigns, which includes all the necessary dinnerware. Tote the easy-to-carry Ingrid stackable plastic pitcher set from cutfromthesamecloth for sweet tea (spiked or not) and add ice to the retro aqua cooler from MonkiVintage for beverages. Spread out a traditional red and white cotton gingham picnic blanket, like the fabric available from blueflowervintage, and you’re ready to enjoy your vintage picnic!

If you prefer to have a vintage summer party, then set the picnic table with pink and white gingham napkins from SuzisCornerBoutique and display appetizers in a yellow serving set like the one from TheLovelys. Serve main dishes and sides on the vintage luncheon set from junkculture, and for dessert scoop homemade ice cream into colorful Raffiaware Thermo-Temp bowls from  wingedgiraffevintage. Between yummy bites and entertaining conversations, play a round of croquet with the vintage table top croquet set available from thesundaytimesmarket. Are you having summer cravings yet?

For more picnic inspiration check out the beautiful vintage picnic sets I recently found at a local antique show and party decor ideas from vintage caravans. Thank you for having me and I hope you have a vintage filled summer with many picnic parties!
