Coast-to-Coast: Craft With Etsy Labs in Brooklyn & San Francisco handmade and vintage goods

This week we are pleased to announce bi-coastal crafting events, which has become a monthly affair! Join the Etsy Labs in both Brooklyn and San Francisco (and online!) for free hands-on workshops to stir up your creativity. So, read on for twice the crafting fun this week…

Crafting in Brooklyn, NY:

Open Craft Night at the Etsy Labs in DUMBO, Brooklyn

On Monday, August 2, we’re hosting an open Craft Night at the Etsy Labs (a week later than we typically do). Instead of an organized craft, we invite you to dive into any project that strikes your fancy. Bring along any craft you would like to develop during this week’s Craft Night, or start a brand new project using our tools and extra supplies.

This is a golden opportunity to complete an unfinished project from a past Craft Night, or finally get a start of a project you’ve been keeping in the back of your mind, like sewing those fabric buckets or making sailor’s knot bracelets for your friends. We have a variety of all your favorite crafting tools and supplies available for you to use for free during Open Craft Night, as long as you play nice! Snacks are welcome, as always.

When: Monday, August 2, 2010. Drop in any time between 4 to 8 p.m. ET.
Where: Etsy Labs at 55 Washington Street, Suite 512, Brooklyn, NY

More Upcoming Events in Brooklyn:
8/01: Church of Craft meeting at Etsy Labs
8/09: Summer Camp Craft Night at Etsy Labs with Julie and Simone
8/16: Craft Night at South Street Seaport with Miniature Rhino

Crafting in San Francisco, CA:

Craft Bar With Etsy Labs at the Museum of Craft and Folk Art in San Francisco

Craft Bar with Etsy Labs at MOCFA carries on! Each month, the Museum of Craft and Folk Art features an original, easy-to-follow project, designed to guide and encourage you.

Want to explore your inner bookworm in a whole new way? Join us for the August edition of Craft Bar with special guest artists Kelly Ball, Jen Hewett, Maren Salomon, and me, Julie Schneider. We will provide a variety of easy-to-learn bookmaking projects using found and recycled materials. Learn techniques like “coptic stitch” and “flag” as you make your own books!

Don’t feel like working with awls and bone folders? Local favorite The LoinSF will be on hand with a simple silk-screening project that will suit all skill levels — bring a favorite paper-based item to screen on, and silk-screening materials will be provided. For those who prefer a less structured experience, MOCFA offers free-form knitting and crocheting in the Stitch ‘n’ Bitch area! Don’t forget to take inspiration from the gallery and the store while you explore the creative process.

When: Thursday, August 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. PT at MOCFA. Online demo at 1 p.m. PT in the Virtual Labs.
Where: Museum of Craft and Folk Art at 51 Yerba Buena Lane, San Francisco, CA.

More Upcoming Events in San Francisco:
7/30: Etsy Success Panel and Meet Up at the Museum of Craft and Folk Art
7/31 & 8/1: Renegade Craft Fair at Fort Mason. Stop by the Etsy craft area!
