my name is alix mccauley….i live in a tiny town in northern california with my husband and two children…. jacobs sheep are our neighbors. i lived in NYC for years, working freelance in set design, photograhy, painting and illustration….traveled around the world with my husband…..and now settled down here to devote all of my time to raising my beautiful children and focusing on creativity.
What is the first thing you can remember making by hand? How and why did you make it?
placing my hand in the wet plaster of paris for a hand print. it was a preschool project. my hand was so little….i still have it, and i think it is the first time i realized that i love to create.
What inspires you? Where do your ideas come from?
i find my inspirations by surrounding myself with people who have creativity, ambition, compassion and determination.
What are your favorite materials?
recycled….natural fibers… cotton, tencel and bamboo in lycra blends are so wonderful because they are great to work with, easy and beautiful to feel on your body.
What is your favorite color?
constantly changing….but brown is so beautiful, earthy and full of rich tones.
What are your most and least two favorite films?
favorites….Cinema Paradiso, i love foreign films….and for something more in the moment….Babel, what a powerful movie with a strong statement. least….i go out of my way to avoid them….
What are you reading right now?
the owner’s manual to my serger….we have this love hate thing going on.
Any tips on selling handmade stuff?
do what comes naturally…it is so entirely rewarding to create things you feel inspired by….and to just always believe in yourself, and others will follow. make products that you are proud of.
Apart from creating things, what do you do?
i am a mother of a three and seven year old…. need I say more? no…photography and painting have been and always will be a large part of my life.

etsy has changed my life….I am so entirely grateful to be a part of this vast community of creative minds ….it is perfect in my mind
