Today is a Very Special Day for Girls Around the World

It’s our fourth year celebrating International Day of the Girl, a day that we at Plan International fought along-side girls and women to put on the global calendar.

Why? Because girls are one of the most marginalised groups in the world. The unique barriers facing girls and young women including discrimination, lack of opportunity and vulnerability to child marriage, child pregnancy and gender-based violence often go unheard. October 11 is a chance to bring the issues facing girls forward, to make the invisible visible, so that girls everywhere have the opportunity to lead, learn, decide and thrive.

We’ve teamed up with our friends at Etsy Australia for a second year as part of the Make for Good campaign. Makers, designers and curators from across Australia and New Zealand are harnessing their creative talents to create brighter futures for girls and women.

Funds raised from this year’s Make for Good collection will support Plan International’s Because I am a Girl campaign and our mission to unleash the incredible potential of girls by promoting their rights, transforming futures and creating a better world for all.

We’ve been so inspired by the passion this wonderful community of makers has put into this year’s Make for Good collection. So much heart and drive and creativity can be seen in each piece. We know we’re sorted for all our upcoming gifts for our friends and family (and for ourselves!).

For us, one of the biggest thrills has been reading the reasons makers have chosen to make for good this year. One of our faves comes from Jessica Colton of Komorebi Handmade:

Girls and women are capable of driving incredible change. It gives us great pleasure to see the impact the Make for Good campaign has had in connecting Australians with our work, and supporting the voices of girls and women everywhere. A huge thank you to everyone involved in this year’s campaign. With your help, girls everywhere can take their rightful place as equals.
Happy International Day of the Girl!
