“Look deep into nature and you will understand everything better” – Albert Einstein

Imagine: your wings unfolded high above mountaintop islands, or paws lumbering through seas of grass, maybe your scaled belly slithering across the dust of an ancient inland sea. You’re in a world that has long since vanished beneath the ever-changing dynamo of nature.

With specimens from the world as-we-know-it and a world painted over by extinction and change, Melbourne Museum has curated a glimpse into the diversity of life on Earth: Wild: Amazing animals in a changing world

Wild features over 600 preserved animals, some centuries old, in an incredibly designed collection on permanent display in the museum. Etsy, in collaboration with Melbourne Museum, want to bring this collection to life through everyday homewares, jewellery and artwork that will be available on as well some limited items in the Melbourne Museum Shop.

We are seeking untamed creative makers from the Australian Etsy community to apply for this opportunity. If you think you will be inspired by this collection, read on for application details.

Inspired by the extensive collection, Etsy sellers can produce works of art, fashion and homewares. Just imagine: handmade tiger earrings, paw print tote bags, lazy sloth neckties—all things inspired by wild animals from across the planet!

For successful applicants that are able to attend the exhibition in Melbourne, we will be able to provide you with a ticket to the exhibition. For those who are successful but aren’t able to see the exhibition in person, they can use the virtual tour on the website, and the Museum will provide photographs of the collection.

Let’s see if you’re eligible to apply for the collaboration with Melbourne Museum.

You must:

  • Design and create a product inspired by the Wild exhibition at Melbourne Museum
  • Be able to produce multiple items (these can be unique)
  • Have an active Etsy Shop.

If you’re ineligible, don’t worry. We have many opportunities throughout the year, so keep your eye on the blog!

Deadline for submission:

All submissions must be received by Wednesday 08 June 2016 at 12:00pm

I don’t have an Etsy shop, can I apply?

If you feel inspired enough to make something and don’t have an Etsy Shop, please open one! You can open an Etsy shop at

When will I know if I have been selected?

Both Etsy and Melbourne Museum will select the successful makers, and will contact them by 15 June 2016. With regret we must say that we will not be able to inform all applicants who were not successful.

Please click here for the application form. Submit this by 08 June 2016.

The Wild exhibition can be viewed online in a virtual tour on the Melbourne Museum website.

Love the idea of this! I'm off to visit the exhibition with my family. It's the perfect place to go on a rainy Melbourne day.
